Was it just me or did anyone else have issues streaming our game? I tried so many times and gave up as ESPN kept telling me the content wasn't available.

Also, I find it annoying espn can't do better at gamecast for college baseball. How hard could that possibly be? They are always behind by an out on the Gamecast.

That's crazy. All my neighbors here in Houston were having the same issue streaming.

No issues in BCS.

Did you try logging out and back in again?

I occasionally get this for games. When it occurs I go to another SECN+ game if I get that one I can usually go back to the game I want to watch and it will stream. If not then I close the app and restart. If that does not work, I log off and then log back on.

I do the same if there is an issue.

The issue appears to be an authorization issue which means in authentication the media/TV provider is not handing back the correct licenses. But I'll note sometimes it might be ESPN improperly applying the license list to their own content.

The only way to truly reset the app on a phone or device is to delete it avd re-download it. But you can try these other steps:

1. As Trouble mentioned, try logging off and back in.
2. Try dismissing the app and restarting it.
3. Try it in a computer browser and see if you can watch the specific stream there.

As a reminder, TV/Media Provider sign in provides licensing for linear channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNC, ESPNN) based on your media package and the equivalent streaming licenses like SEC+ and ACCNX and the generic ESPN3.

ESPN+ purchased directly from the espn.com site or the Hulu Bundles that include ESPN+ are authenticated with MyDisney credentials. This allows viewing of ESPN+ labeled content and is not required for SEC+ labeled content.

Here are some additional, frustrating issues:

1. You watch a correctly labeled stream but it isn't showing your game. This could be because the linear showing the game is in alternate content like finishing an earlier game. There usually is a secondary stream that is showing your desired content but they can be hard to find. If it is on a linear watch the linear on TV to see where they claim to be broadcasting your desired content. This only happens in my experience with linear content.

2. In the other hand, if you sit watching a stream that says your game is about to begin it doesn't always start the content in time. Try exiting the stream and re-entering it.

3. Regrettably searching for A&M games is awful. For most other major sports other than baseball, make sure to favorite your pro or college teams. It will sort those games into sight while Texas A&M games almost always are late in the list otherwise. (Cue the usual comments on ESPN, but note our schools makes more than it ever has on media revenue because of ESPN.)

If all else fails try putting a note in the pinned thread because several of us do try to see comments there and see if we can help.

Yes, SECNetwork+

It always has the live games to choose from and shows upcoming games.

But, my point is that not only have they been available, I had no issues watching them.

As others have said, logging out and back in generally solves the issue. I have noticed quite a few authentication issues with Spectrum and ESPN recently.

I seem to have this issue every year at the beginning of the season - SEC+ won't play on my TV. Here's how I get it fixed. I have a Sony TV, and YouTube TV is my provider. I subscribe to ESPN+.

- Open the ESPN App on my TV
- Go to Settings in the ESPN App
- Log Out
- Log Back In
- And then, I can get the games on SEC+

my ESPN app on my LG TV would not allow me to login no matter what. It would just give me an error. I even deleted the app twice and tried to completely log back in, which usually works. I could get into the app on my iPad and the old Apple box that I keep on there for back up, wouldn't even let me log out of my TV provider, which was weird because it always does.

I have a lot of issues with the ESPN app at different times. The TV one this time could've been an LG issue, but either way I got to see it.

It's an ESPN app issue. The only way I have gotten it to work is by closing the app and logging back in. Extremely annoying for ESPN+ and SECN+.

I like to switch between games between innings just to see the scores and the only way to do it is by logging out and back in.

I think it's ESPN's strategy to keep people from sharing passwords. But it ends up just destroying the experience for actual paying customers.

unfortunately its a glitch that occurs from time to time. I've had it happen to me twice this season. That and the "your event hasn't started yet" error.

Edit: should have looked at replies, sorry for saying the sane thing that had been said 50 times

FWIW, for the piggie friday double header, the link from A&M was to the 2nd game. I had to start watching another game to get the player working and then go to more content to find it playing. I was able to watch both games.

I watch our 4 games and half a dozen more most weeks and don't have these issues. Streamer is Apple TV or chrome browser at espn.com.

The built-in apps on your tv and many other streaming devices simply are not as good.

Happens all the time since switching to Fubo. I have to log out of the ESPN app, sign back in and select Fubo as provider to get it to work.

Let me add more context: browsers can always give an updated experience. Devices need to have the apps updated and publishers sometimes cut off support for devices as the device count in use decreases.

I have three smart TVs…the LG bought in 2011 no longer receives updates. The Sony bought in 2014 mostly cannot be updated. Even older iPads stop receiving iPad OS updates much less app updates.

My understanding is the more common devices that are used for over the top streaming like the ESPN app are TVs, Chromecast, Fire Stick, Roku (TV integrated, settop, AND stick) , and AppleTV. While I actually agree that AppleTV is one of the highest quality streaming devices, it mainly benefits those in the Apple ecosystem, and many commenters have shared their positive experiences with other streaming devices. Derm uses smart TVs successfully and knows how avd when to update them and likes that it is integrated with the TV as a specific example.

Regrettably we aren't a tech support team that can cover all these variations so instead we give simple, common advice (we being those trying to help!!! Not just me!)

Your comment is helpful in that it highlights the need for app updates in anything other than a browser on a computer. The comment on that and AppleTV being superior is well-informed but still just opinion.

I hope that delicately conveys the bigger tent we are all sharing.

The re-authentication process is likely based on time since last authentication. There usually is the ability to extend authorizations without re-authenticating as long as there isn't too long of a gap between authorization attempts.

ESPN has been very aggressive on re-authentication even when I regularly use the device and I mostly use either AppleTV or browser as well. I have faced all of the issues everyone else has plus Spectrum authentication and authorization has gone through many changes over the past ten years. Your TV/Media Provider is the source of authentication and authorization which is the list of entitlements not ESPN. By th have an interest in ensuring you are properly licensed since both derive revenue.

Spectrum in my home uses a completely different authentication approach than when I am out and about. They use the difference to allow me at home to see all their channels on the Spectrum app but only some channels out and about.

It's not a universalism, it's a general observation from someone directly involved in this area in my day job. Newer TVs are orders of magnitude better but those from even just a few years ago are not good.

The platforms were not well supported and the processors were extremely underpowered for running apps. Consolidation of the OS's in this space has helped considerably, especially among the low and mid-tier brands.

I am glad it is working for you though .

My comment wasn't that Apple TV was superior per se, it was the apps on Apple TV are generally better. TVs and other streamers have made significant progress in the last 5 years no doubt, and as I mentioned above that is at least in part due to consolidation in the OS space with folks like Roku and Google offering an ecosystem play rather than the TV OEM trying to go at it alone, which you aptly pointed out has repeatedly failed.

Basically only LG and Samsung continue this model, with even Sony jumping to a major OS and all the Chinese / Taiwanese hardware manufactures pretty much en masse selecting Roku (really smart move by Roku btw).

So in the past sw devs had tons of choices and decisions to make when it came to selecting platforms to support. Apple TV apps are generally extremely well supported by the dev (ESPN in this case) because you get a large swath of the audience on a single platform and Apple supports their hardware 2-3x longer than anyone else out there. I mean I am directly in this space and still run an Apple TV HD from 2015!

Devs can now support iOS, Android, Roku, Samsung and LG and cover 95% of the devices out there, which is a good thing. In that past there were dozens of different platforms and most were just terrible. Passable at best but mostly awful.
