This one was personal. They are all personal against t.u., but this one for obvious reasons was bigger. I wanted a series win as bad as I've ever wanted an Aggie victory. I have been around baseball enough to believe in the baseball gods, or karma, or whatever you want to call it. Schloss himself believes in it, because one of the things he always said here was that "the game knows." I don't know if I can buy that anymore, because if there is any such thing, then Schloss was in for quite a beating this weekend. I was truly hoping for, and would not have been shocked to see, at least one thumping by the Ags. But it didn't happen, and life will go on. I can promise you know one was trying harder than the team.
As for our team, these truly are our guys. This baseball team personifies what it means to be Aggies as much as any I've watched in any sport. Win or lose, they have a character about them that I am proud to have representing my university. These players, not the coaches, brought the Aggie baseball program to an all-time high last year, and I am fortunate to have watched every minute of it. Then they stayed here, all of them, when many could have gone to any program of their choosing. I am grateful for their loyalty. And this year, even with the early-season lows, I am thankful for the lessons they have taught us about perseverance and how to keep fighting when everything seems to be against them.
To any players who might read this, we are behind you. We know how personal this is for you because of the time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears that you put into this. And because of the personal relationships that you have formed with each other, and with some who were in the other dugout this weekend. You represented yourselves and A&M well, just as you always do. You stood up to the challenge and provided some fantastic plays. Sure, in the end there were too many balls that were just barely missed, or didn't carry out the way they normally do. That's baseball. But this weekend was personal for all Aggies, and we are thankful for your fight. There are no moral victories. We all want to win and are rooting for your success. We will be behind you all the way through this season, and I have no doubt that great things are still ahead.
Let's give 'em hell the rest of the way. BTHO Lamar and lsu!
