Obviously preseason polls don't mean much (as Virginia and someone else, I can't remember who, learned last year), but it means baseball season is close and it gives us something to talk about!

Perfect Game released their Preseason Top 25 today. D1 should be coming out on Monday (1/12)

Initial thoughts on this one:

Probably too high:
- Georgia Tech
- Tennessee (we all know how difficult having a first time HC can be)
- State
- Oregon

Probably too low:
- UCLA (I think they're going to be scary good and have an insane record in the B1G)
- Coastal
- Vandy

Ags not included, we will definitely have to re-earn benefit of the doubt this year and that's ok.

What did you expect? We finished the season with an RPI of 50 and losing 6 of 7 (Mizz & GA)? We also lost 3 really good starters and a first round pick in Jace. So why would there be any hope to be ranked in the prrseason?

Where did anyone say they expected us to be ranked?

Judging by their preseason coverage, don't be surprised if D1 has us in the 22-25 range, though.

Not saying we should be ranked but I expect us to be vastly improved. This team is more talented, is much deeper than last year's squad, and the change in approach should make a big difference.

Gavin, Keller/Partida, Hacopian and Royo > Bindy, Royo, Kent, Henseler.

TK, Sorrell, Duer > TK, Jace, George

I would bet a large sum of money our DH will be significantly better than last year (sans when Sorrell was DH'ing). Schott, God bless him, was hitting on two bum knees and hit .215 as a DH.

Pitching may take a slight step back, but better defense should mitigate that to an extent. I actually expect pitching to be a push or slight improvement if Sdao and Stewart are healthy.

I'm not a sunshine pumper. I *****ed about defense most of the lead up and throughout the season last year, but I'm very excited about this team.

My expectation is a regional host or bust. Wouldn't surprise me if we're pushing for a national seed by the end of the year.

I hope you're right. Both the coaching staff and the players will have to be vastly better than last season.

I think our team will be better this season. How much all depends on our starting pitching. The dynamics are different for A&M baseball going into this spring as compared to last year. We have a tough SEC slate but I think our coaching staff and hitting should improve a bit. Just not sure how our overall pitching will perform.

I think you're correct in your analysis. If we can get an improved TK and Bear at the plate, and a Royo who strikes out less, we should be a better offense with a little length. That's the beauty of baseball - hope springs eternal.

I listened to a D1 podcast and to say they are gun shy to discuss preseason rankings after us (preseason #1) and Virginia (preseason #2) not making the postseason is an understatement. I say just get over it, but we made them look silly. I just hope the polls don't punish us in the rankings if we do happen to have a good year because they were embarrassed last year.

Personally, I think being ranked 25 is more of an insult than not being ranked at all. Yes, they were only exhibition games, but we looked FAR better than 25 in our "wins" over Sam and TCU. I would've preferred to start unranked and the D1 folks tell us to "prove it" after last years debacle. But that's just me being petty on a Monday morning.

I took the ranking at 25 as they see we have a good team despite how we finished last season but we still need to earn that trust again.

As far as our SEC schedule goes, all five of our home series will be against teams ranked in the D1Baseball preseason top 25 (#3 Texas, #4 Miss State, #9 Auburn, #15 Georgia, #23 Vandy). We also go on the road to #2 LSU, #13 Florida, and three unranked teams. We don't play #7 Arkansas, #14 Tennessee, and #18 Kentucky.
