#4 Mississippi State being NO HIT (in the top of 2). They're at #10 Southern Miss and currently down 3-0. Should be a great game, but you need an ESPN+ subscription to watch it.

Mississippi State's flight out of D/FW was cancelled, and they had to bus to Hattiesburg in order to play this game. That's how we did things back in my day.

Georgia loses 10-9 to Western Carolina. Western Carolina up 6-4 bottom of 8 and Georgia hits a two out two strike grand slam. Georgia gets the first two outs then Western loads the bases with 2 outs. 2 out, 2 strike grand slam. Georgia loads the base bottom of 9 and gets one run. 10-9 bases loaded, Phelps up who is batting 450 and has a 27 game hitting streak and with one more hit ties the all time Georgia record. Hits a ground ball, bad throw, Phelps called safe at first and Georgia apparently tied it up. Review and he is called out.

Florida just scored 2 runs to take the lead when the pitcher made a wild throw. 1st baseman jumped off to catch it and stepped on green base in plenty of time. The safety base is stupid.

If he had plenty of time, why did he not touch the regular base or was some sort of interference called in that he blocked the runner from tagging the safety base?

He just felt for it with his foot. Thought he had the out when he touched the base. Those 2 runs won the game.

The guy would have been out by 10'. I would assume he would keep reaching for the base the same way he did his whole life playing baseball without the safety base.

Thanks for the highlight (or low light I guess) and I get your argument but the safety bag has been around for a couple of seasons now. In other words the players should know by now the rules concerning it.. IMO plays like this one are rare enough that they are not worth ditching the benefits of the safety bag. and initially I hated the idea.

Agreed. There is zero excuse with the time this has been in play now. Kid just got excited and didn't follow through. It happens. There were a couple last year two iirc.

Though I differ in loving the bag from the get go. When I first saw it I face palmed, "Why have we not been doing this since forever?!".
