Hi Ags back stateside, I am currently living in a small European nation that has implemented increasingly strict controls. Among others: only citizens and residents allowed to enter. International rail, bus, air, and boat travel suspended. Most public spaces closed, and more restrictions likely to come. Schools all closed and doctor visits greatly reduced. Greatly reduced internal travel.

Here to answer questions you may have on what to expect and how we are dealing with the situation as the United States starts to consider similar steps.

Liechtenstein would have a tough time with wild panic riots. They have less than 100 policemen and no military.

On the other hand, great place to ride out the apocalypse if food is well-stocked. Mountainous country with only a few roads into it.

Right now grocery stores are still open and people are acting normally. So my family and I feel ok on that front, and the government has been good at communicating that there are stocks of basic supplies available for several weeks. Did get some extra pasta and other staples just to cut down on the nu,beer of store runs.

Trying to keep the information generalized. But it's Slovakia if you are super interested.

I'm close enough to and have friends in Northern Italy to make me concerned about the impact here at least. We are all relatively young and healthy. My concern is not the virus, it is the system getting flooded and other basic services evaporating. And on the virus front, I don't want to get it while the health care system is breaking down.

Right now, yes. Restaurants have reduced hours and today the Prime Minister announced likely further restrictions to come.

44, with broad recognition that they are lagging in testing. Also broad recognition that they are not well equipped for a major outbreak, hence the drastic early steps.

44 and locked down!

We are not there yet with at least 3 major clusters.

Slovakia has no illusions about their capabilities to respond and is trying to learn from Italy.

I will tack on to this thread as another person who lives overseas. in Panama (Central America), warm humid tropical climate and I know some are hoping warm weather will help.

Panama announced its first confirmed case in the country on Monday. Then went to 8 cases and 1 death on Tuesday. That night they closed all schools and cancelled all public events and sporting events nationwide. They also are not allowing big groups like weddings so people are having to postpone those.

Wednesday went up from 8 to 14 cases. Thursday went up to 27 cases. Then last night the total was up to 36 cases. The government has been doing some other things like tax breaks to employers who allow their employees to work from home and limiting number of certain items at stores to prevent hoarding.

They are also restricting flights into the country.

Border closures are a major event as is the cessation of all international travel. The measures in place here are probably the strictest outside of Italy in Europe and are getting tighter. Call it what you like but it is isolating and disorienting, especially when the US is still home and is really hard to get to now.

When I say acting normally, I mean that thanks to pretty good central communication, we haven't seen the pathological hoarding.

That's what happens when you cancel the Department of Journalism. Back in Old Army, the only outbreak we covered at the Batt was red ass.

I'm in Geneva - we are not on lock down (at least for now), but can provide some insight here as well. Not a whole lot has changed honestly from a day to day standpoint, but again, that will likely change with France and Italy in their current conditions.

Slovakia responding like the NBA. Without Adam Silver (new David Stern)who knows how long we would have sat on our thumbs.

Believe it or not, I didn't mean that the way it came across. I actually meant it as in it's a good thing he's not on lockdown.

But it sounds like he is now.

Just updating Panama number of confirmed cases - which I thought might be interesting to some since Panama has a tropical climate. We are now at 43 cases (Day 6 after first confirmed case).

DAY 1 (Monday) : 1 case
Day 2: 8 cases
day 3: 14 cases
Day 4: 27 cases
Day 5: 36 cases
Day 6: 43 cases (5 hospitalized, 1 death so far)

Panama as of today is no longer allowing any flights from Europe or Asia into the country. I guess Panama will stop allowing flights from U.S. if/once the outbreak up there has spread past a certain point.
