Is a Run on Fuel Imminent?

Got some gas this at HEB morning and noticed a few folks filling up multiple gas cans, as well as longer lines than should be expected 8:00 am on a Saturday. Fuel price is certainly not an inhibitor at this point.

It shouldn't, but all you need are a bunch of people to get it in their head that it will be the next shortage. Then others will see them buying fuel then think they need to.

People filling up more than their car and 1 gas can should be shoot on site. There's zero reason for that bull**** to start. This isn't like a hurricane where supply runs are going to be knocked out because if weather. If everybody just fills up when they need to fill up, literally nothing will change. Same with toilet paper. Same with Clorox wipes and bleach. Same with anything. People are so damn stupid, I kind of hope this virus culls the geard a little bit.

I'm sure the shortage is going to be invented. I usually don't let my tank go below a quarter of a tank so now I'm not letting it go below half a tank as a precaution. We have a Murphy's by my house that is always packed on a normal day because they have super cheap prices all the time. Now there is hardly any lines there with their $1.76 a gallon prices while the H-E-B across the street has their overflow parking full.

I've heard reports that I can't verify that some places are running out of ammunition which makes no sense but I'll never have to worry about that again. After the last shortage I took steps to make sure that my family what's good on that front. After this shortage of food I'm going to make sure that we are always good on that front too. You don't have to do anything crazy but keeping a few week supply of non-perishables on hand is prudent.

Can you imagine if a real apocalyptic threat happened? It would be insane.

Anyone want to buy up a bunch of generators now and sell them on Craigslist for double next week? We can always return them in 30 days for a full refund.

We're literally swimming in oil in this country. Pretty sure a fuel shortage is the least of our concerns.

Many who are able due to the nature of their jobs are working from home, so I would think demand would go down, not counting the "panic". Hopefully people have better sense so the doctors, nurses, police officers, firemen, and of course refinery workers can get all the fuel they need

With everyone NOT commuting we will have fuel surplus

All it will take is some mom Facebook groups to get it going and within 72 hours the entire country will be having a gas shortage.

I'm sure everyone remember the run on gas in Dallas back in 2017. There was no shortage in fuel, until the rumors started spreading on social media. Then you had idiots filling up 55 gallon trash cans with gasoline.

PLEASE buy as much gas as possible right now. Also, gas can go bad so after a week burn off what you have and then buy more.

If you know a bunch of moms on Facebook, get the word out. My family's wellbeing depends on this.

Considering the President said they are buying oil to replenish the national stockpile because prices are great and when I looked yesterday gas was 1.85 at the pump I don't think we need to worry. Granted it we do have a run on gas the price should pop up a bit which would be good for the industry after Russia and Saudi try to flood the market with cheap oil.

If there is a run, it comes at the right time. Saudi and the United Arab Emirates are dumping oil onto the market and we are filling up the strategic petroleum reserve for cheap.

It shouldn't be an issue, but who knows.

With the number of work from home folks increasing exponentially, there should be a gas glut.

I doubt there will be, unless a bunch of Texagers read this thread and decide to fill up en mass in case people decide to fill up en mass

There won't be an actual "shortage", but I could see it being similar to Dallas in 2017. I was there; it was awful.

I think we'll see gas at the lowest price in history in the next couple of weeks (adjusted for inflation of course).

There's only so much people can fill up. And if most of us are staying home, most of it will be sitting unused for a while. Can't imagine any shortage would last long.

There are no issues what so ever in Houston, filled up (because I saw this post) and out of 20+ pumps maybe 5-6 were being used.

I would like to see more people driving around.. help use up the gasoline supply as it is over supplied at the moment due to the entire Coronavirus event

I would have zero concern about any fuel shortage. Maybe people are making sure their tanks are full, but travel is going to be way down using up that gas so that buying spike won't last long, and there is no shortage in supply.

I was thinking of running to Buccees to fill up a few cans of ethanol free gas, but that's only to take advantage of the low prices currently

All of the people filling the gas cans are the same fatties loading up on toilet paper and junk food. What the hell are they going to do? Take a road trip and sh*t on the side of the road?

If a "run" happens it will be short lived. Demand is way down in the mogas world.

Only way there is a shortage is if the virus spreads so much that the refineries have to shut down because the operators are sick.
