Under 5000 global deaths, and only 4 new internal cases in China. They have it contained in a country of 1.5 billion.

Something doesn't add up about this entire pandemic.

Maybe enough got it that they are at herd immunity levels and only severe cases are popping up.

Or, they are lying.

Have you seen what they have done to prevent the spread? Ffs, there was a video of them potentially breaking a woman's neck and taking her away. They have gone on daily, round the clock, patrols spraying bleach water from massive blowers around entire cities after locking people up in their houses.

The umbrella protests were eliminated so the Chinese government doesn't need the virus anymore.

China locked their country down. You couldn't leave your apartment without having your temperature taken. China and South Korea are why we are locking everything down here:

Everyone diligently maintained the mandated meter's distance from one another. Professional sporting leagues were canceled almost immediately. Schools never reopened after the winter break. Across the city, special fever clinics were set up so that regular hospitals could keep other ill people protected.

On my last excursion to a big supermarket before we left, I had my temperature taken four times between my apartment door and the produce section. Government offices and hospitals required travel history questionnaires to prevent anyone who'd been near the virus outbreak epicenter of Wuhan from entering. Some even required patrons to scan a barcode that revealed where their cellphone had been over the last two weeks to instantly fact-check people's answers.

Residents relied heavily on online shopping, with drivers never entering apartments or interacting with customers. We ordered online; drivers delivered to impromptu drop-off zones; we collected our purchases once they'd left.

I think part of it is you don't want to just tell the Chinese govt you have the virus if you can avoid it.

Don't want to be in China w my name on that list

I also guarantee you that many have died in their homes/apartments. If the authorities discover them, I doubt they are added to a Corona list

" In contrast, individual liberty is the engine that drives American exceptionalism. There are certainly valid questions about how much of it to sacrifice in the name of the public good, but our laissez-faire attitude, prioritization of personal freedom and utter lack of government leadership have left Americans confused and exposed." Watch the videos of them opening the apartments the welded shut to find everyone inside dead. That's one way to handle it I guess. People forget China is NOT like America in so many ways.

When swift and deliberate action is needed, it's hard to beat a totalitarian regime when it comes to getting things done. South Korea isn't on the same level as China, but I think they're much more likely to tolerate sacrificing individual liberties for the good of the community.

There was an american who is stuck in Wuhan with her family for 40+ days. She had FB'd that her family can't leave their apartment and the government brings their food. Did say the skies are so much clearer now and the numbers are going down due to the drastic steps they're taking. Would suck to be stuck in a apartment with kids that long.

They have. Most factories are open. Maybe not at 100%, but they are shipping product for sure.

I work in the manufacturing industry and deal with people from China.

They are probably still shut down in Wuhan (I don't know anyone there), but other spots are shipping product.

X2

I lived in China from 2013-2017 and have constant communications with people there.

Outside of the Wuhan area, things are edging back to normal. Folks have been WFH for the last few weeks and starting to return to work.

My old upstairs neighbor in China works for Nike and they're back to 100%.

Things are starting to loosen up as far as travel etc, but folks are still wearing masks in public etc.

And I agree with statements above. While China did what they had to do to control the virus, I don't trust the reports of how bad it actually got.

South Korean domestic intelligence is top-notch and often overlooked. Combine that with their near-ubiquitous surveillance capability (they are the most wired country/cameras everywhere) and it is significantly easier to enforce such things. Lastly, they didn't become a democracy until the late 80s, so it is not that hard to flex old muscles.
