Right. STAAR prep and re-testing is the main reason for summer school.

Staar testing is an artifact of the silliness no child left behind standardized testing W created. Local parents should hold schools responsible, not the state/feds, for teaching their kids.

It's stressful for kids/teachers alike to hit a stupid score/rate/failure rate on a meaningless test, and focus preparation on how to do so for months.

I'm in fundamental agreement with you on this, but, like everything else, follow the green. Test prep materials and everything else associated with it is big business. It's too firmly entrenched to completely go away, unfortunately.
