Live in Rockport, TX. Went to my local H-E-B this morning at 7:45 in hopes to obtain a couple of items. There was a line of people with carts from the front door to the gas island, about 1/4 mile. This is in a town of 10K folks with both a Wal-Mart and an H-E-B. Both stores have been sold out, wall to wall, for a week.

So what is up? How long is it going to be until some form of rationing/controlled access is going to be put in place. There is NO WAY a town this size has not served every person in it. There CANNOT be this kind of NEED after a week of continuous shopping in two major stores. It can only be HOARDING and has to be stopped.

This is truly WAR and we are going to have to institute some form of WWII rationing!!

Hope you have all you need. I was wondering just to keep the crowds down if they might do something like they did in the 70's gas shortage, assign odd and even days to go out if you must.

Try your non gringo grocery stores. They are still full.
Try HEB mid day, not a half hour before they open.

People just have to give them time to restock and stop freaking out. It's crazy the level of "freak out" the media causes by over reporting about all the lines and "shortages" of items.

Have the grocery stores either put on limits or have pricing structures like this:

1 roll of toilet paper = Regular Price
2nd roll of toilet paper = 1.5x Regular Price
3rd roll of toilet paper =2 x Regular Price

I'm not sure their systems would allow them to put pricing in like this though.. may have to be hand entered.

I would do that if we had any NON GRINGO stores (Note: town of only 10K). I have been convinced that at noon there will be nothing left. That may not be correct, perhaps worth a try.

There isn't a supply problem. I think that after this initial run where people stock up for 1 month+ that things will get back to normal.

I think HEB is giving less stock to small town stores. Try going to a bigger town.

My HEB is out of everything but when you go there you see the normal amount of people buying thee normal amount of goods. We just aren't getting restocked from the panic buying of last week.

My Safeway has plenty of everything except toilet paper and disinfectant. Give the supply chain a moment to recover.

Take a deep breath........

Was at Rockport yesterday and Aransas Pass yesterday...no eggs, paper goods and not much of frozen or fresh vegetables.:ie no potato's or onions . Just crazy. Went to Corpus this morning..favorite meat market closed..opens 12-6 and no family packs. AP HEB was allowing only so many in at a time this morning.

Between Rockport proper, the greater surrounding area and tourism I'm sure the Rockport HEB is supporting far more than the posted 10k population. And when something like 20k people decide that instead of shopping for that night or that week they need to shop for a month's supply of food then the demand will always far exceed the store and its supply chain.

I think a lot of us used preppers as the punchline to a joke before all of this. Let's not confuse preppers with hoarders either. Preppers stocked up in the good times and didn't even cause a ripple to the supply chain. Hoarders rode the first wave of the crisis and put us where we are today, trying to catch up. We'll probably see a huge bullwhip effect down the line. Living in Rockport a couple of years after a major hurricane, I would've thought that more of you would have a nice sized stock of supplies.

I'm pointing four fingers back at myself because I sincerely lucked out on this one. We had done our grocery shopping the day before the stores got hit hard (including toilet paper!). Since then, we have been able to just top off every day or two through the express lane. Now I'm trying to figure out where to build my pantry after this is all over.

Ag in OK: Would think of that, but a 40 minute to 1 hr drive to perhaps find nothing is something I am putting off. We are in decent shape, NOW, just wondering when/if they are going to regulate access so that everyone has a fair shot?

HEB has everything I need but milk and toilet paper. I can make our TP last until supplies get replenished. Every gas station I have been in the last few days has gallons of milk so I don't know why people are worried if HEB is out.

Eventually these fools have to run out of money or places to store all their crap. Things can't keep going at this pace for very long.

There are jackasses buying up freezers from lowes and home depot so they can hoard more stuff. In the first world, affluence often exceeds intelligence.

My HEB was full of milk and had more than one option for TP yesterday but they were out of a bunch of other things that were on my mother-in-laws shopping list. She has COPD so I shopped for her and half the stuff was not available.

I'm in corpus as well. It's a joke. I went ahead and bought my regular hurricane supplies when this **** started making its way out China so we are fine. But I don't want to go deal with the looney toons and get little things like onions. A lot of people I know are in the same boat as you OP. I think this will calm down around the first week of April once people start running out of money. I could be wrong but who knows. I'm getting out of dodge and turkey hunting this weekend.

I would be shocked if HEB isn't limiting the purchases for people once they get into the stores...most of the Dallas area stores have done that for the key items that people seem to be hoarding: TP, paper towels, eggs, hamburger meat, hand sanitizer....

last week, my SuperTarget shelves were bare, but I was still able to find a few items I was looking for at a smaller CVS store. Today, I was able to get my staples (eggs, milk and yogurt) at my local Central Market.

They are limiting items...just too many idiots .

And Mark, don't think Corpus is any better than Rockport.

Maybe this is the solution to the obesity crisis that will finally work. I'm practicing fasting now, down to one meal a day and am going to try to use this crisis to shed the extra 20 pounds I've been carrying around for the last 10 years.
