Most here have heard about Hydroxychrloroquine being used to fight China-Virus.

Some may not have heard that trials using the blood pressure medicine of Losartan is also being done.

Curious as to what led to this?
Did people on certain types of blood pressure medications have better outcomes compared to others on a different kind?
Because everything i've read on here suggests that the Wuhan virus is deadly if you have existing heart issues / heart disease/

In theory ACE inhibitors could make it worse but in theory an ARB could make it better. Once again just theory and not known. Same reason Ibuprofen could exacerbate it as it allows a lot more ACE to be in the body same as ACE inhibitor.

I'm confused. I thought I read where the ACE inhibitors such as Losartan make you more susceptible to getting COVID-19. Some are saying it makes it better?

ACE inhibitors might, ARBs such as Losartan have a different mechanism of action. They block the ACE 2 receptors, so in theory the virus could be blocked. This is all just speculation and theory, I wouldn't stop taking your meds without talking to your doctor.

Who knows anymore. Most things appear to be theories at this point (changing daily) and the only people being studied are the ones that are testing positive and we aren't testing anyone. I would imagine that most patients being studied with Covid-19 and high blood pressure are also over 60/70 and therefore have other risk factors too.

It's a damned conundrum. I'm on losartan. Trying to decide whether or not to stop it or switch. ARBs upregulate ACE-2 receptors. But clearly as that review nicely states the consensus is to remain on ARB or ACE-I.

All of the media was using Chinese flu at the beginning. The President of the United States says it's the Chinese flu. Everyone knows what it means. That is what I'm going with. Now be safe and don't get the Chinese Flu.

Maybe Breitbart and InfoWars were calling it Chinese Flu, but the CDC and legitimate media called it a novel coronavirus, and the disease COVID-19. Why does it need a different name?

American Heart Association has recommended patients already on ACE inhibitors (lisinopril, ramipril, captopril) to remain on them for the treatment of hypertension or congestive heart failure. There's no conclusive data it leads to worse outcomes in those infected.
