I've heard this rumor from several (well-meaning) people today, including in a now-deleted thread on this board, so I thought it would be best to link the debunking of it.

The message basically says "I heard from _________ who knows someone in the CDC/DHS/Govt and they're about to announce that everyone has 48 hours to prepare for a two week long complete lockdown." According to Snopes, the CDC and many other reputable sources, this is nothing but fake news and is contributing to the panic.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but wanted to do my part to stop the spread of misinformation!

UPDATE FOR CALIFORNIA ANNOUNCEMENT: These fake news messages are saying Trump will announce a TOTAL LOCKDOWN - no going anywhere - enforced by the National Guard. California is still allowing its residents to leave their homes for essentials.

For those who have the interest, the link is a growing, academic-ish Lawfare article summarizing quarantine and isolation authorities at the state level. From Lawfare

Texas is the last state in the article, at least of now.

If the Department of State Health Services or a different health authority has "reasonable cause" to believe that an individual has or has been exposed to a communicable disease, it may order the individual or the individual's guardian to "implement control measures that are reasonable and necessary to prevent the introduction, transmission, and spread of the disease." Any order must be in writing and be delivered to the individual. The Texas Code also provides for the imposition of control measures for groups of five or more.

The code also provides for quarantine measures for an entire area. An area quarantine may be imposed only if the commissioner has "reasonable cause to believe that individuals or property in the area may be infected or contaminated with a communicable disease," only for the time period "necessary to determine whether an outbreak of communicable disease has occurred." A local health authority may impose an area quarantine only after consulting with the state-level department. It is a felony in the third degree for an individual to violate or refuse to comply with any rule, order or instruction under the subsection.

The rumors are still out there and not going away.

Some news sites are even starting to report on them.

According to the Washington Examiner, the latest is Trump on Sunday is going to shut down all airlines, the stock market, virtually all businesses, and order all people to not leave their homes for 30 days.

I understand, and of course, I don't think this can even be policed, but I think the idea that the discussions of an order to stay home being FAKE news is wrong.

These rumors are intended to scare the crap out of people which leads to all the hoarding and panic buying. They are basically telling people to stay home unless you need something essential like food or money or gas or medicine or you work supporting those services or their supply chain. The fake news is the crap saying lockdown and you cant leave your house for any reason. Please stop propogating this idocy so we can go to the store and have some basic **** available again instead of all the asswipes hoarding everything.

It would be interesting to be able to show stats on injuries and deaths that have resulted from this panic itself. We have 5 deaths reported currently in Texas from the virus. The first was on 3/15, two days after we declared a state of emergency. How many deaths may have resulted from the panic?

I have heard several variations of this and most are they the national Gaurd are being marshaled to enforce this. Do the math. There is not enough active duty military and reserves to enforce this across the country. Not going to happen

"I wish I was as popular as everyone's shared friend of a friend who just got out of a military briefing about the Stafford Act and a mandatory 2 week quarantine."
