Cali to follow? I'm in construction distribution for heavy civil. We had not seen a slowdown at all.

I know they're trying to prevent the spread but this is my favorite part of the article: "As of Thursday evening, the state had 185 cases of COVID-19 and one death."

A little math, population of Penn- 12,810,000

Percentage with COVID: .0000144%
Percentage of deaths: .00000078064%

Wreck that economy.

I'm sure it's coming to Texas.

While I get what you are saying, the question is this:

What would those numbers become if we didn't do these measures? Not just what they are now. And then another question is it just about the deaths from this, or preventing the hospitals from being overrun potentially causing more deaths/issues?

None of us can quite predict all those numbers/madness.

I've been ok with most of the actions taken, but shutting down all businesses is way too far, IMO. People can socially distance and still work. I'm wondering when someone is going to sue the government for some of these actions. It's clear we have a freedom to assemble.

I understand that and in before some one says I don't understand exponential growth.

I just wonder about the affects of train wrecking the economy.

Lots of people have already lost jobs and companies, lots more will if everyone goes to that step.

That's why the politicians will be able to get away with this if.... in the end.... there are comparatively minimal death numbers (forget about infections). You won't be able to prove that their 'devastate the economy measures' were wrong. They can just say "If we hadn't done this" the death numbers would have been exponentially higher...and you can't prove them wrong. This is their CYA strategy. They might be right, they might be wrong....but as opposed to destructive hurricanes you don't have satellites to prove that the hurricane veered north away from land and didn't hit the coast.

Agreed. I'm not saying one way is right and another is wrong. It's a tough situation all the way around.

This is kind of interesting to watch. It's just a guy strolling around the mostly empty, quiet streets of New York.

It's the media scaring everyone. I was watching some and they kept saying they're reporting "facts and only facts" BUT.... they're not really putting it into perspective. Italy is their comparison even though Italy is smaller than Texas but more concentrated and a much older population compared to the US. I'm not discounting the danger of this virus but the media needs to put the facts into perspective. They keep comparing us to them saying we are where Italy was 2 weeks ago, etc etc.

The economy here is screwed & it's gonna get worse. I'm not sure our small business will survive this but we're trying. Many small businesses have closed and let their employees go to start earning unemployment. A friend of mine cannot get his unemployment to go through... seems like they're overloaded at the moment. HEB is hiring temp work for deliveries but I heard they stopped taking applications (not sure if true though).

And why TF is Fauci smiling so much during his press conferences? I may be nitpicking a bit but if your delivering serious information, have a serious look on your face. (Sorry, but I'm ticked right now)

One of our biggest suppliers is in Penn. Not only will we be getting our sales orders cut in the downturn, but we'll likely miss key deliveries now too. I understand why, but this sucks!

For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would want to live there. I know this is just a small portion of the city, but the place is overcrowded, cramped, dirty, expensive, and cold. I've visited a couple of times and can take about 2 days of it before I'm ready to get out.

Funeral homes make good money for the owner(s) and employees get a paycheck. I do get your drift.

Straight from the governor's web page.

https://www.governor.pa.gov/newsroom/all-non-life-sustaining-businesses-in-pennsylvania-to-close-physical-locations-as-of-8-pm-today-to-slow-spread-of-covid-19/

Take a look at the "failure to comply" section and the agencies he orders to enforce.

"Failure to Comply and Enforcement
Failure to comply with these requirements will result in enforcement action that could include citations, fines, or license suspensions.
The governor has directed the following state agencies and local officials to enforce the closure orders to the full extent of the law:
  • Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board
  • Department of Health
  • Department of Agriculture
  • Pennsylvania State Police
  • Local officials, using their resources to enforce closure orders within their jurisdictions
Private businesses, local organizations and other noncompliant entities that fail or refuse to comply with the governor's orders that protect the lives and health of Pennsylvanians will forfeit their ability to receive any applicable disaster relief and/or may be subject to other appropriate administrative action. Such action may include termination of state loan or grant funding, including Redevelopment Assistance Capital Project (RACP) grant funding and/or suspension or revocation of licensure for violation of the law.
Finally, in addition to any other criminal charges that might be applicable, the Department of Health is authorized to prosecute noncompliant entities for the failure to comply with health laws, including quarantine, isolation or other disease control measures. Violators are subject to fines or imprisonment."

The deadline has already been pushed to 0800 Monday now too.

I give it a week.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.
