I've been looking into this and I do not think we have conclusive evidence to determine: are children catching this virus and not showing symptoms (carriers) or are they literally not catching the virus at all (not active carriers).
The dataset I've seen show that 2.4% of everyone tested are in the age group of daycare children.
So it is an interesting question, we know some children are impacted, but we also don't have a lot of data that children are this massive asymptomatic carrier group.
I'd be interested if anyone has seen any new data, because it is interesting.
Edit: found an interesting take and may have answered my own question.

The study in Pediatrics also showed strong evidence for human-to-human transmission, according to researchers. More than 90% of all pediatric patients were either asymptomatic (4.4%) or showed mild (50.9%) or moderate (38.8%) symptoms."
The asymptomatic cases are MUCH lower than what is portrayed by the media. Only 4.4% of the 90% of milder cases are not showing symptoms that would make them be turned away by daycares under new regulations.
