Hospitals in New York are having success with the new treatment protocols. If we can get the ICU/vent rate down to a manageable level and get the supply of meds we need, we can fight this while the public has at least some measure of freedom. While we don't want new cases to spike to the point where we are overwhelmed, the calculus is changing.
Will depend on how much success we have in testing, getting results quickly enough to start treatment, the supply of treatment, and the effectiveness of that treatment. If we can get that part down we don't need big shut downs. Just smart common sense things.
The whole point of these social distancing measures weren't to keep people from getting infected, they were to keep people from getting infected at an unsustainable rate. If the rate of infection is sustainable and we can reliably reduce mortality / vent needs with medication, reopen the damn economy.
