Or as the previous governors of Illinois call it, under house arrest.

I hate to say it, but I think this is going to happen in a lot more states.

It's no different from what we were already under and doing.
Only thing is that by calling it a lockdown it may increase panic.

For the most part up here things are shut down and people are staying in their homes.
With bars closed and restaurants only doing delivery and take-away, no sports, and any other activities closed (museums etc.) for this past week I don't see what changing what we are calling it will do.
It will cause the few retail stores that haven't voluntarily closed to do so, but for the most part everything was already shut down up here.

I can see how they may feel the need to define it as "lock down" so after this all passes over they can say "we did everything in our power to stop and treat this", but in actual changes to behavior there isn't much difference from how this past week was.

These "lock downs" are just political grandstanding.

Hospitals in New York are having success with the new treatment protocols. If we can get the ICU/vent rate down to a manageable level and get the supply of meds we need, we can fight this while the public has at least some measure of freedom. While we don't want new cases to spike to the point where we are overwhelmed, the calculus is changing.

Will depend on how much success we have in testing, getting results quickly enough to start treatment, the supply of treatment, and the effectiveness of that treatment. If we can get that part down we don't need big shut downs. Just smart common sense things.

The whole point of these social distancing measures weren't to keep people from getting infected, they were to keep people from getting infected at an unsustainable rate. If the rate of infection is sustainable and we can reliably reduce mortality / vent needs with medication, reopen the damn economy.
