With schools being out, we are losing our capacity of blood - all types. If you are healthy, please donate.

Back when I used to donate regularly, it was every 8 weeks.

If you are A+ the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in Houston is asking for platelets. Those can be donated every week. I turned up to donate whole blood but they asked me to come back specifically for platelets. It takes about two hours. Also, mobile drives are being canceled so you need to schedule appointments at one of the blood centers.

Yes. Please donate. You can donate whole blood every 56 days.

Since I last posted on this thread:
https://texags.com/forums/84/topics/3099841

Nationwide over 14000 blood drives have been canceled at a projected loss of over 350,000 units of blood.

Make an appointment to donate at your local center.

Several listed in above thread, or you can go to www.americasblood.org to find your local blood center.

I'm also happy to answer any questions anyone may have in regards to donating.

You are a GREAT Ag!! Thank you!

I wish the staff would post this somewhere - this is one of the few ways people can support those in need.

Serious Question: How are they testing to make sure you're not donating infected blood?

There is not a currently testing of donated blood for COVID19.

Also, covid19 is a coronavirus like MERS/SARS and the common cold which are not transmissible via transfusion.

It's a respiratory virus, if it were in the blood patients would have a longer list of issues.

I've donated twice this year and cannot donate again until May.

Thank you. It will be needed then just as bad.

Typically this is the time of year that banks stock up and prepare for summer. This shortage is going to last a long time due to the loss of donors.

Done. I'll find a place tomorrow in H-town. My better half is a mid-level provider at a certain famous hospital that also needs blood. They don't want to invoke panic, so not blasting the request out yet. It's the least I can do now.

I used to donate plasma and blood all the time when I was 18-21 until I had a bad experience. I said I would never do it again. I turn 50 next month. If I'm going to do this, I want it to do the most good as possible. Which do they need more blood, plasma, platelets? I'm A neg.

Generally, being an Rh- blood type we are going to need red cells the most. But it could depend on the inventory of the blood bank that day. Platelets are always needed due tot heir 5 day shelf life.
