Two strains?

No link...just a conversation with a family member in Europe who told me there are two strains of COVID-19, and that is possibly why people who are getting released after getting well are appearing to catch it a second time, when in fact they just caught the 2nd strain (like this year people getting both Type A and Type B flu).

This is the first I have heard of this. Anyone else? Maybe that's why some tests are coming back with false negatives? I really, really hope it is untrue.

I have heard zero credible evidence of this from the medical community or elsewhere. Sounds like a theory non-clinical folks would come up with while too much time on their hands.

That's what I'm hoping as well.

There was a paper several weeks ago which said there might be two different strains, but it was later pulled.

As for the people being reinfected, there is no evidence this has happened. More likely those people who were reported to be "cured" and then came down with it again were not actually cured and the virus came roaring back.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

There was a thought that people were getting it twice because some people feel better for a day or two and then feel bad again.

There is an Old paper out of China that stated there is an L and S strain. After review, it was pretty much put down, becasue the differences in the sequence were not enough to make a big difference. Just google L and S stain coronavirus to find old discussions/

Here is a quick reference that talks about the actual paper. PS. I laughed when I saw the date. Beginning of March is OLD in coronavirus time.

I have heard multiple experts refute this claim. They have said like any virus there are minor mutations which result in differences. But most believe those mutations are weakening the virus.

Just some material on the topic that may or may not be true.
