Just had to leave work due to acute fever. Got on shift this morning with a 98.1F. 12 hours later it's 101.5F. No other symptoms other than a headache that occurred about an hour before my temperature was checked. I was immediately sent home and I really hope it wasn't transferred to anyone else but I'll be surprised if it wasn't considering our proximityto eachother.

I'm now home quarantined with aches and chills. Not looking like the expected symptoms of COVID so we will see.

Now I'm on a mandatory 72hr fever free break before I can return.

My employer hasn't yet said if I'll be getting tested but I'll try to keep yal up to speed with my symptoms and progression.

Hope it is just a run of the mill bug. Rest easy and hydrate.

WTF, 72 hours? Seems like you should be staying home longer than that.

Not sure what the protocols are based on but I'd assume if you don't have fever for 72hrs straight they assume the bug is gone. It's such a fluid situation and really could make things challenging if it spreads through my work.

Just curious but have they released protocols?

I went to the doctor on friday, i have had a low fever since last sunday. He said the same thing. 3 days of no fever.

so 72 hours no fever or 14 day quarantine? I'm confused now.

I think 14 days is assuming day 1 you don't have symptoms. If you have symptoms and the fever goes away I'm thinking you aren't contagious anymore after 72 hours? I don't know

If it's caronavirus, you're cleared when you've had 3 days of no fever without use of fever reducers like Tylenol and no symptoms like coughing AND it's been 7 or more days from the initial onset of symptoms.

CDC guidelines say:

Test-based strategy. Exclude from work until

Resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and

Improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath), and

Negative results of an FDA Emergency Use Authorized molecular assay for COVID-19 from at least two consecutive nasopharyngeal swab specimens collected 24 hours apart (total of two negative specimens)[1]. See Interim Guidelines for Collecting, Handling, and Testing Clinical Specimens for 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Non-test-based strategy. Exclude from work until

At least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since recovery defined as resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); and,

At least 7 days have passed since symptoms first appeared

Again, it's a sign you might have it. You could have it and retain your sense of smell and/ or taste.

I've been home since Friday, and still running a fever. My wife is as well.

I tried to get tested at a couple places, but feedback was all the same: (not my advice, I'm not a doc just telling you what I heard) if you don't have shortness of breath, you should just stay home and keep your family there. If it becomes significantly painful to breath, call your doctor or the Houston hotline. If it becomes difficult to breath at all, or you notice you are breathing faster, head to the ER. I would call and get advice from a medical professional on next steps before getting in a car. There is a Houston hotline.

I don't know if I have carona, but if not it is a very unique cold. No major muscle aches like the flu, and it just feels different in your chest than a cold or flu. Like when your chest hurts after opening up the chlorine tab bucket for the pool. The fever, headache and tiredness all suck, but the breathing irritation is the most uncomfortable thing.

So, I'm hunkered down now until my fever goes away for a few days, regardless if I have carona or lime disease or whatever.

Companies, particular refineries and chemical plants, are checking temperatures and aren't allowing anyone with a fever to enter the facility.

What the hell? So when will they test you at the drive in testing locations? If they tell you that they can't test you because you don't have severe symptoms, and IF you have severe symptoms to go to the ER, when is the right time to go to the drive by testing places??

OK I found it

Officials say those with a chronic illness, experiencing a cough, difficulty breathing or any other COVID-19 symptoms will still have to call

for a screening between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m before being tested. This testing location will only see people who received a unique code from the call.

I haven't been able to smell anything for years
I miss it badly
I care barely smell anything and my sense of taste sucks. Between having bad sinuses and working on nitromethane cars growing up there is nothing I can do about it now. On the plus side I have never had a sweet tooth

Has the OP called his doctor for advice? I absolutely would not be listening to an employer about when I need testing nor when it's okay to return to work.

My wife has to check her temp before entering the building and then during her lunch break whenever that occurs.

I haven't contacted a doctor but I trust my supervisors in this situation to take care of me.

I actually just got a call telling me they are scheduling me to be tested so may be going in today to do it.

My temp is now 102.5, mild headache, sore throat, very sore with back and chest pain, cough here and there but nothing crazy.

At my work it has become standard practice to take our temp at the beginning and halfway through our shift.

My company is doing this now too. Funneling everyone into one door and checking temps at beginning of shift.

Don't obsess about testing. Assume you have it and continue your current course. Testing is not reliable anyway and will not change the plan.

Sleep, drink, and heal.

Call your physician. You need to be under someone's care, so if things go south, they can advocate for you. Your employer may be the greatest person in the world, but he or she is not a doctor. It is irresponsible for them to not tell you to contact your physician. It is part of the CDC guidelines to do so.
