There's a lot of noise, anxiety, bickering, uncertainty out there. Had a coworker in Arizona take his own life yesterday. Shocking and sad. Was it depression, hopelessness, finances, lack of face to face support? we don't know. Reach out to someone- anyone if you're scared or in a bad place. I've seen half a dozen posters here reach out to TexAgs and get overwhelming support.
Turn off the news for a couple days. Walk away from social media for some time. These times are just temporary.

I posted this on another thread, but it think it deserves reposting.

Not sure this is helpful but if you have a therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, ect. you normally see and talk to see if they are offering virtual appointments. My psychiatrist sent out emails when everything first starting going downhill. I knew I didn't need an appointment last week, but I have one scheduled for Friday. My doctor's even accepting new patients via video chat, so you might check locally for someone to talk with virtually for now. When I first had to see someone I thought it was dumb, but it really did help.

Don't suffer alone. There are people and resources out there that can help you even if you are at home and not going out.

It would not surprise me in the least to see the suicide rate and rates of mental health problems increase in this crisis. You can bet data will come out on that. We know things like loneliness and stress are harmful both mentally and physically.

Here are some useful mental health resources from the National Alliance on Mental Illness for those who are struggling.

If you are a healthcare worker, there are lots of efforts going on right now to find ways to provide free therapy for you. Here is one such option. I'm not familiar with the qualifications of their providers but just one example.

Telehealth has become increasingly common as a format to provide mental health services. Many people are switching their practices over to telehealth, so it is still possible to talk to someone. Research indicates telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy.

And if you are concerned about suicidal risk for yourself or someone else, please give them the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. 1-800-273-8255. Help is out there.

You know how you can tell your girlfriend is getting fat? When she starts fitting in your wife's clothes.

My anxiety is through the roof. I shook until 11:00 Monday morning. Teared up driving into work a few times Monday. Was better today but thought today was Wednesday most of the afternoon. Had a little curbside hh with some co-workers today.

I'm a nurse.

I was shocked last night how anxious I was to go grocery shopping today. I'm the only one not pregnant in my group of friends and in a low-risk family, so I've become the one designated to shop for everyone else. I have insomnia off and on in good times and it was full-force last night. I felt so much better when I got 90% of what was on everyone's lists. But I was surprised that it hit me so hard. It wasn't even about the virus because honestly I'm not worried about that. But other people, dealing with crazy people, and possibility of food shortages really messed me up.

To be fair, I'm not experiencing anxiety but I still thought today was Wednesday until you said that. Gets confusing when every day is the same and the events that mark the progression of your week don't happen!

Hang in there

I, too, had a hard time keeping in mind that today is Wednesday. Every day seems the same when working from home full time.

Hang in there but don't be afraid to ask if you need anything or even just need to talk or vent!

I'm starting to think I really need to read less first hand accounts on here and watch less news.

I can't be the only one who seems to start feeling anxiety the more I read or news I watch. I hate to bury my head in the sand, but not sure how much more about this damn virus I can read/watch.

I have purposefully stopped watching the news since Sunday. I suffer from anxiety on a good day. The state of the world was really doing me in! Its Wednesday and i have thankfully began to feel better.

Controlled ignorance is bliss!

I've been in law enforcement for 18yrs, all of it on the streets. Not a whole hell of a lot truly gets to me.

But this thing is starting to scare me. 47 with a history of asthma isn't really making me enjoy some of these threads.

Everyone stay careful and remember to call your friends often.

I went through an unfortunate time in my life in 2006-2007. I moved to post Katrina new orleans for work rebuilding the city. I worked in the worst places exclusively. No police, no ambulances, no street lights, total thrid world feeling. It took less than two weeks to see a man get curb stomped until he maybe died...the cop that was called told me to leave before someone comes back for me - first time i'd seen solidified blood. After that it was downhill. My mental health suffered b/c there was no hope and I was all alone. It was a dangerous place and wanted to witness it first hand. I wanted to be a part of it.

I got to the point to where I didn't sleep (less than 3 hours per night) - work, gym, then walk around city until 2-3 in the morning each night. there is a chance i was walking 15+ miles per night ... just wandering was bad enough and then i got truly sick. if i heard a gun shot I would walk towards it looking for what happened. north of south clairborne... iverville projects ... walking through hords of homeless people - it was never dangerous enough for me. I was completely sick and being alone gave me no accountability. I needed to see carnage to make myself fel better. I got to the point to where crazy people would shy away from me b/c i had not one ounce of fear in my eyes. this lasted nearly 18 months.

I dont have these problems now, but when Coronavirus kicked up three weeks I told my wife that this was going to be the end for a lot of people. I could feel that old feeling of needing to be a part of the problem...and knowing that others will do the same. So take it from a complete stranger on a message board - please dont let your friends/family get obsessed with Coronavirus. Being obsessed with a disaster will ultimately turn you into a disaster. So many better places to focus obseission.

Sorry for the long post

Sorry that you had to go through something so traumatic, but glad you are still with us.

Depression is definitely not something to take lightly. People who have never suffered from it don't understand how it can drive people to do irrational things.

Lost another employee today to a fever & another to childcare issues. That is 12 employees of mine out. Thankfully none of my nurses have come down with a fever & one will complete her quarantine this weekend. But damn.

My husband will probably want me to not come home at some point & stay with a coworker for who knows how long. Started this discussion tonight. My girls are 5 & 3. I can't stand the thought of being away from them, not getting hugs & kisses from them for weeks but I will do whatever I need to do to keep them safe.

On Sunday, our family watched Bishop Robert Barron's Mass, then had a "virtual coffee and donuts" on Zoom with several other families.

It went a long way towards providing some well-needed interaction. The kids were playing charades, everyone was talking and enjoying each others "company" even from our own homes.

Find some friends or families you can do something similar with.

My Wife and several of her friends did the same thing one evening as a virtual "wine and rosary". About 10 women on video conference visiting and drinking wine.

I am doing a live reading of "Treasure Island" on Facebook every night at 7:30 pm. Finished Chapters 11 & 12 yesterday. Reading chapters 13 & 14 tonight. There are typically about a dozen or so watching live and over 100 watching them afterwards.

you are not alone. Usually hits me about 8 pm after feeling pretty good during the day. But the information begins to build and every little throat scratch or change in breathing pattern makes me think I have it. Anxiety is real.

I miss talking to people (in person). I normally work from home so that isn't different for me, but I always had my social outlets. Now running into people in the store is scary instead of fun. And I can't go to the Rec Center, can't workout with weights, can't really see anyone I know in person except my wife. Luckily we're good, but damn.

Talked to a local small police officer yesterday at the park. He said they are taking care of business but not looking for trouble.

He said the incubation time on domestic violence increase is about a week out.
