I have young teens in the house who are following the news and able to discuss current events without anxiety at the moment. However, there are a lot younger kiddos home with a lot of questions right now. Heck, there are a lot of adults with a lot of questions right now! Which makes it hard to parent; especially on top of all the routine shake-up.

Anyone have advice or encouragement to give?
What's helping you parent right now?

Anyone need support and encouragement in parenting during this stressful time?

Maybe it's not the best advice because I'm sure all kids are different but mine definitely take cues off of us. Keep them informed as much as they need to know and explain it to them to the level they would understand but dont panic, cry, argue or stress because even if you are trying to hide it they will sense that. We are just trying to keep a happy home and isolate while we are on a 14 day quarantine.

We have a four year old so the questions aren't too difficult. We've told him that there's lots of sick people that need to be able to use the places we usually go (school, church, stores) and so we want to stay home until they all get better. He seems to be okay with thay explanation.

I agree that the biggest part is not panicking or making it dramatic. We don't watch the news or sit around talking doom and gloom so I think the mood is staying pretty upbeat.

download google podcast app and let them listen to "But Why" or "Brains On!", they both have current podcasts about Corona virus and social distancing. my 5 year old listens to these every night while he is falling asleep.

You can listen to it with them if you want.

I have a 3 & 5 year old. We've told them there's bad germs out in public and when all the bad germs are gone, they can go out again. If either me or my husband leave the house, we strip in the garage and go take a shower immediately. I'm not necessarily worried about bringing stuff into the house, but it comforts the kids to know we're taking precautions to not get sick from the bad germs. They seem to be taking it okay for now.

I am teaching my kids to load tiny guns.

In light of this I would advise to turn off all news on TV. Not hard to pop a Frozen tape in and give'em pop tarts.
