I did some research last night on Hydroxychloroquine with Azithromycin and found the government website that lists all the clinical trials that are being conducted on Covid-19. It seems that because of government bureaucracy and to some extent politics, the trial on this combo just now started (says March 23) and won't be complete until August 2020. All the while, more people become infected and die.

"Safety and Efficacy of Hydroxychloroquine Associated With Azithromycin in SARS-CoV2 Virus (Alliance Covid-19 Brasil II)"

1) This is an emergency - how to you get the results sped up so you know the results in 2-3 weeks?

2) Can the AMA or other doctors ban together and override this? The results have been good with this combo from what I have read - yet we are fiddling around while Rome burns.

Very promising and just overall interesting..
Trump has been pushing this and sounds like
Giuliani is going to do his best with whatever pull he still has... this should be pushed out everywhere and can help reduce numbers in hospitals.. these are existing drugs with years of study and known side effects

Thanks yea I saw that and I thank OPAG for posting. That Dr is also on the Hydro. thread and I read it the other day.
Bottom line we need to cut through politics and save lives and speed this up!

This trial won't take very long as they're likely to recruit easily to trial. The studies have an end date because trial design often requires an estimated end date. Depending on the protocol, there's likely designed time periods where you can peak at the data and a trial can concluded at one of those periods if their primary endpoint is statistically significant (generally called alpha spending). The most important thing is to collect data on events (recoveries, patients worsening, even safety) to help differentiate effect of standard of care that everyone will receive coming through the door and the drug's efficacy or lack thereof.

preliminary results will be distributed as they become available. Until all the cases are resolved final results can't be released and the study needs to reviewed.

If it works the Drs will know and patients will get the treatment

Three things are happening:
1. Doctors are already prescribing if patient is positive
2. A quicker test is being developed for immediate assessment:
3. The drug production is being ramped up.

Items 2 and 3 are the critical path.
