I wonder how many fewer people die due to less car accidents on the road b/c less traffic now... And if that makes up for potential increase in suicide numbers.

What other factors might shift down/up or balance out overall number of deaths?

There are already numbers to indicate through first week of March the overall death rates in the US are down, even with CV. Expect it to continue as more data gets reported.

sadly, a neighbor shot himself last night. I think suicides will be really something to watch as we go into late April and May.

Yup. Lots and lots of folks out there on anxiety and depression meds already.

That's horrible. I think you combine mass job loss, economic turmoil, and social isolation and sadly that's the cocktail you're making.

Any time you have major financial declines (on a macro or micro level), suicides are more likely.

Many people are quick to jump on the "the cure is worse than the disease" train, but it's typically just to further an opinion they were already steadfast on.

Right now we have absolutely no idea how bad "the disease" will ultimately be, so it's difficult to say if any of the economic fallout we've experienced wouldn't have still happened without "the cure".
