As has been discussed on here, IL-6 has been shown, among other inflammatory mediators, to drive the "cytokine storm" in the dramatic ARDS decline phase of severe COVID-19 infection. I have witnessed this first hand for the first time and can say it is one of those humbling experiences in medicine. Nothing currently can save these poor people once it gets to this stage. This drug is approved in China. It is being used off label here. It is an IL-6 inhibitor used for RA and temporal arteritis.
