Just looking for some clarification. I understand that there are those that have been infected that may spread the disease before they themselves feel any symptoms. But are there also those that may be infected and "recover" and never actually show any symptoms?

Asymptomatic means without symptoms.

You can have the virus, be asymptomatic for a period of time, and then after 2-14 days on average start to become symptomatic and show symptoms.

You can have the virus and always be asymptomatic, never showing any outward symptoms. They don't know the percentage of individuals truly in this group but 18% of the Diamond Princess infected were in this category.

Fully asymptomatic cases (being infected but never showing any symptoms) have been estimated from as low as 10% to as high as 86% so its probably somewhere in between.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I'd like to apply for one of those slots, please. Maybe I'm already in it.

I guess the only way to know if you are is by finding out you're not.

And is it also case about HOW asymptomatic you are?

Like the people out there with sore throats and chests that are heavy/tight -- are those 100% allergy/anxiety related, or could you make a case that they may have the virus but just an incredibly mild response to it?

Asymptomatic means NO symptoms. Without symptoms.

Someone with the mild symptoms you are referring to could of course have Covid 19, it's been documented that it runs the full gamut from death to zero symptoms, at least symptoms felt by the patient, ever.

You could make a case but it's a guess without testing.

Also the slightly symptomatic might attribute to seasonal allergies , which is very similar to being asymtomatic because they are out spreading germs thinking they are not infected

Truly asymptomatic to me means no symptoms at all associated w this. No dry cough, no runny nose, no congestion, no loss of taste/smell, no fever, no shortness of breath, no headaches, etc..

All of those symptoms could also describe allergies. I think the fever and shortness of breath are the big ones.

Is there an estimated percentage of the population that even if exposed will not contract the virus or is it 100% if you are exposed?

I understand that without more testing and tracking there is no way to come up with a hard number but did not know if there were estimates out there for this question. Also understand that some will contract the virus with no symptoms.

Who's being being determined as asymptomatic if test are so hard to come by? I mean, who's showing nothing and getting tested and why? Is it like the kids that came back from Spring Break from Mexico...they test everyone and half the kids say I feel nothing? Like that?

One known example that I mentioned in the first reply on the thread was the DIamond Princess passengers.

I have to believe that they are testing people who live with, or have direct contact with, people who have tested positive - at least in some locations.

But asymptomatic testing is definitely not the norm and can hopefully increase with more test kits and antibody tests kits.
