Test availability for those not showing symptoms?

I don't think testing is available yet for those not showing symptoms but I have had no desire to look for such. However, there may be a point where I do. My father has chronic underlying health conditions(ALS) that would most likely take his life if he contracted the virus and there is still no cure. Knowing that I could be asymptomatic of the virus for 2 weeks while still having the virus, I would not want to visit him unless I knew I did not have the virus. Do you think there will be a point where I can go into a clinic and get tested?

Try the NBA or the White House. Those are the only asymptomatic people I've heard that got tested.

Seriously though, testing is a major limiting step for identifying which sick people are contagious for both medical and public health reasons. Until we are just swimming in tests we need to be judicious, and asymptomatic people just aren't high priority unless they play basketball

People with symptoms are having trouble sometimes and even reporting 10 day turnarounds.

Pretty sad state of affairs because identifying who has or had it would go a long way in slowing it down and getting people back to work.

Person at our church tested positive. She got the results ~2 weeks after she was tested and after she was symptom free.

Sorry your father has such a difficult disease, and even a test may not help , false negatives and delays in getting results both could lead you to being a carrier and not knowing it. Self Quarantining for 14 days although not perfect maybe your best course of action

Not. Going. To. Happen.

Me: I'm sick, I have a 102 degree fever.

Doc: Can you breathe?

Me: Of course I can breathe. If I couldn't breathe, I'd be dead.

Doc: Well, if you can breathe, stay home and eat some chicken noodle soup.

Me: But, I feel terrible.

Doc: Well, you probably have COVID, and we don't want you to show up here. Stay home. Refer to my last statement about soup. If you get into the state where you CAN'T breathe, don't come here, go to the ER.

Me: Yeah, you can F yourself and the horse you rode here on.
