People need money. One of the Dallas guys said it best when he said that an Xbox could be a few days worth of food.

Seems everything can make up an excuse to be essential.

Everything is. That is why shutting down the world has extreme consequences that no one cares about because the effects won't truly be seen for months and years. But nobody cares about that because it's not right now.

The idea that "nobody cares" is pure crap

It's easy to forget places like a pawnshop give access to cash to a large portion of the population that a bank would never even speak to.

It's almost like the free market is actually dictating things more than the government.

Of course pawn shops are necessary. Where else will the looters sell their stuff when the riots begin?

Helps the police have a funnel by which they can investigate the crime wave on the way.

They may not be at the moment but if this drags on a few more weeks they may become essential for most people.

One of reasons liquor stores are considered essential is for individuals addicted to alcohol. You can't just quit all of the sudden because it is medically hazardous and people can die from the withdrawal effects.

I spent quite a bit of my professional career in the pawn industry. Most people on this board would be surprised, as I was, how many communities rely on pawn shops to get by. With the exception of a very small %, most pawn shops have no interest in stolen merchandise and are a valuable tool for law enforcement for police catching bad guys.

Pawn shops are not swap meets or thrift stores. They are lenders. The average loan in a pawn shops is pretty small. In Texas it is under $100. And the vast majority of those loans are picked up in less than 30 days. What you see on the sales floor is generally just a small % of what they take in.

Pawn shops will close the day banks close.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

This is a fake shut it - it's going to be longer than normal since they are still allowing half the **** to be open. And this is a great disrespect to those businesses closed. This situation is so ****ed up for some.

I can't imagine owning a restaurant right now, then watching all of the yard workers, construction people, you name it industries wide-open working. We either all shut down, or non-shut down in my opinion.

To further my opinion, the longer we drag this out the more dependent we're coming on the government in the more they print fake money and the worse this outcome becomes.

They will be when the economy completely crashes and we're facing 30% unemployment in the next 1-2 months and people need to do what they can to try to scrape by.

Oh, then when our country is economically devastated and tens of millions of lives ruined and we re-open, in say, June...the virus will ramp back up again bc warm weather doesn't phase it.
