New active cases today are from tests taken when?

Are we seeing a 5 day lag in quantifying new active cases due to test turnaround time? I'm wondering if in some states (e.g. Washington, New York) the peak has already happened and testing is catching up.

Anyone have insight on this?

Depends on the hospital, local government, medical organization, and state that ordered the test.

Some of those groups have pivoted to faster turn around tests, while others have decided not to, or are using tests with bottle necks. It appears to be a combination of business decision, resource management, and preference.

Correct.

Test turn around time is anywhere from 3 days to 2+ weeks depending on locality and the provider.
