After ending our 14 day self-quarantine, we moved to a new temporary house yesterday where we'll be staying for at least the next month, maybe longer. We can't keep watching the news, regardless of the source, all day long - we need to settle into a new routine for this new normal. While I'm hopeful, I don't see the current situation ending soon.

The house we're in now is near Grant Park in Atlanta and lends itself to daily walks. Grocery deliver is reliable here, so we don't have to get out much which is good. I'd appreciate input on ways you're trying to cope. In the meantime, here are somethings I'm going to try to do, or get back on track with in the coming days.

  • Limit news to 1 hour or less in the morning.
  • Spend an hour on centering prayer/meditation practices.
  • Start trying to learn the ukulele that I bought last week.
  • Go for a walk
  • Write to the folks at the churches that support us all over the country asking how we can pray for them
  • Get back on track with healthy eating and intermittent fasting.
  • Journaling
  • Talk to my kids and grandkids each day
  • Look at real estate listings online in anticipation that we'll eventually retire in the Atlanta area.
  • Start working on a plan to get our two dogs, Gus and Woodrow to the U.S. if we're unable to return to Lundazi anytime soon (anybody have large and extra large dog crates you want to sell me?)
  • Do my best to live in the present and stop worrying about things I can't control.

I really hope all of you are doing well, physically and mentally.

That's a really great plan and this is a wonderful topic. I've found that I have to start my day with prayer and meditation. It is the absolute very first thing I do when I wake up. If I don't and I read the news first my mood is sour all day. Journaling is a big contribution to my sanity, as well as finding any reason to get outside.

With the exception of the unfortunate people who are hungry or in abusive situations, I could not think of a better place to be locked down than my own space. I can meditate and reflect. I can go into my backyard. I really do worry about the children and others stuck in a bad place, with no escape. Oftentimes, school and work can provide a much needed buffer between the victims and the ass holes.

So, I could not imagine sheltering in place on the 20 floor of some projects building in NYC. I'll be thankful for what I have.

I just added journaling to my list - thanks. I know it's very therapeutic but I struggle with doing it. Two weeks to form a new habit!

If y'all are foodies I would suggest finding some new recipes or something to do in the kitchen. Not sure what the cookware situation is in your temporary home but I think finding a meal with a long prep time is a good way to get your mind off of things and focus on a specific task for a couple of hours. Can also tie in with your health goals since it can be anything you want. Might add a little excitement or anticipation for that specific meal time

Good list.
We quit watching the news and usually watch an old movie. Last night was Gran Torino.
I have been doing the Anglican book of common prayer Daily Office and am pretty good at the morning and noon services. Evening and compline are hit and miss/
Daily devotional with FB Meyer called Daily walk which I thoroughly enjoy.
Daily Bible in a year and also reading some of the old prophets because I have neglected them. Read Haggai yesterday.

Walk the dogs out here in the country and getting 10k steps a day.

Nap after lunch. Glass of wine around five(seems to be coming earlier lately), old movie with my wife then hit the sack.

I am almost 65 and have no desire to retire as I honestly do not know what I would do except drive my wife crazy.

We live out in the sticks so that is handy at a time like this but even living in a beautiful country setting gets boring.

Maybe I should get a ukelele.

And man I miss Aggie baseball.

God bless.

There is a world of things to learn out there, and most of it is entirely at our fingertips -- and much of it you can even learn for free.

If you have free time and looking for something productive, the possibilities are endless. Learn a language, learn an instrument, learn a piece of software, read the classic novels, watch the classic movies, play the classic games, exercise, exercise, excercise.

Make sure you don't come out of all this with a regret wondering what you did with that time.

You left out the 'drink every night like your still in college' part.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Really been enjoying making bread for my family who's all home now. Flour Water Salt Yeast is a great book.

Lots of cars playing. Oh Hell is a fun one. Also been playing Chameleon which is a crazy game.

Body weight workouts with 7 Minute app. Lots of walks.

I get up and work from home until about noon. After that I go for a 2 hour walk. Then I drink a few glasses of wine and take a nap. I watch about an hour of news in the evening and then a few episodes of The Americans. It's working for me.

Our house burned down several months ago (so this year is really going great so far), and surprisingly playing the uke is one of the things we miss most of all the things we haven't gotten back yet.

So sorry to hear that.

Funny story, my dad when he was about my age used to go play the ukulele on the front porch swing. Funny how that works.
