We saw an article about the effects of high doses of melatonin with high doses of vitamin C on patients with covid 19. Said a couple of patients treated and got better quickly. Any thoughts?
If nothing else and you use melatonin to help sleep you might want to stock up for a month. Don't hoard please.

Benadryl does that to me, i take 10 mcg of melatonin every night, just helps me get a full night sleep, otherwise I tend to wake up at 4 am.

10!? I took 3 on Sunday for the first time and wasn't fully awake until noon, had to cut in half.

I think they meant 10 mg.

I can take Benadryl, NyQuil, or Ambien and still not fall asleep. Never tried melatonin. But I can also do 400 mg caffeine and still fall asleep trying to read the literature.

That's more or less like me. Melatonin did little or nothing for me when I took nightly it a few years back. Like Tylenol PM and most stuff like that. Ambien, however, worked very well the one time I tried it...

I tried melatonin years ago. Started on 5mg and it would knock me out in 20 minutes. After a few weeks I had to up it to 10mg, then 20mg, and then 30mg got to where it would take an hour and a half to really feel anything and still wouldn't fall straight asleep so I gave up on it. I take 50mg of Benadryl and some nights I'm out in 30min and some nights it takes 2 hours. Just depends on how tired I am and if I actually take it and lay down in bed or stay up playing a game or watching TV.

For melatonin to work, you have to close your eyes.

Taking melatonin and continuing to do whatever you were doing wont by itself make you sleepy.

And I would, in my non medical opinion, advise against using benadryl to fall asleep regularly.

I only use melatonin to force myself to sleep due to time changes.

Benadryl is addictive, as are all sleep aids. However, if I ever do need a sleep aid, I use doxylamine succinate, which has actually been approved as a sleep aid. It is also an antihistamine. I'll take one if I'm camping, or the first night somewhere new. It's basically unisom, for those who haven't figured out how to read labels.

I wake up at 4 all the time for no reason. I am going to try this just to sleep better. Your saying it works well for you no issues?

Try a dose much less than 10mg (10 mcg is a typo). Also as others have pointed out, it's not going to help you fall asleep if you take it and don't attempt to relax for bed. Personally, 0.5 mg is sufficient for me to fall asleep (1 mg tablet cut in half). I take it 1 hour before bedtime.

Doc told me that Benadryl causes loss of memory. Try not to take it at all. Melatonin should be safe. Exercise or hard work also does the trick.

So this guy is recommending you take 5mg of melatonin and 1g of vit-c a day as a preventative treatment?

Is that on top of the zinc or in place of?

Yes that was a typo sorry 10mg. Melotonin does not make me go to sleep, it helps me sleep through the night. I am in my 50's and it was getting damn hard to sleep from 10:30 to 6:30 without waking up and not being able to fall back asleep. I have seen little side effects, however I would not recomend taking it at midnight you will probably be a little groggy in the morning. My routine is take it at 9:30, in bed around 10 read till 10:30 or till I start to doze. I do not feel tired in the morning and according to my fitbit I typically get an hour or more sleep when I use melotonin versus not using it. I tried a few others but this worked the best for me, benadryl would knock me out but I had some crazy dreams and usually woke up in a fog. Ambien also works very well but I felt out of control because nothing would wake me up, I normally will wake if I hear wierd noises at night, with ambien you could have landed a f16 in my yard and I wouldn't notice.

If I recall Ambien has some long term side effects. I used to take it when I was on high dosages of Prednisone so I could sleep. I slept well and when I got off Prednisone looked at side effects and stopped.

I take 5 mg.of Melatonin maybe twice a week and it gives me, as well as my wife, weird dreams. And feel drugged when I wake up.

If you want to remember more of the crazy melatonin induced dreams, take a little vitamin B6 at bedtime.

I take melatonin twice a week. I take ZMA every night. Not for fitness but because it helps me sleep through the night. I have a problem walking up at 4am every morning as well. It's like my. Mind just won't ever slow down.

Crazy crazy dreams on ZMA Never have those on just melatonin.

Interesting.
