It's entirely possible this is a permanently spreading virus. I think the most likely outcome is we get a vaccine that provides partial immunity, we have anti virals that help with treatment, but that this virus is a permenant fixture of our lives. In a hypothetical scenario 5 years or so from now it might be uncommon for people to get deathly ill from this virus, but I don't think it's going away. Just my opinion.
