Curious what the status of drive-through testing is in other folks area. It seemed like this was going to be a big mobilization effort across the country. There still aren't any in my area but I'm in a city on the smaller side that's not in Texas.

Over the last week, I've driven past a couple of the drive thru testing sites in the Houston area and did not see 1 vehicle in line to get tested at either of them. Plenty of police and people to administer the tests, but no one getting tested. Seems like an unnecessary waste of resources, but I don't know all the details.....

I think they are preparing for the peak.

just as a point of reference: The public/private partnership with Walmart, CVS and Walgreens has resulted in exactly 8 testing sites.

It's by appointment only and you're in/out in 5 minutes. I don't think you are going to see a line at this point.

This private company is offering drive-thru testing at all three of its locations in or near Dallas.

This is a good article on drive thru testing in New Jersey at the backlogs in the labs.

Houston Mayor Turner announced today that drive-thru testing is available for everyone now, regardless of symptoms. Either there have been no lines or maybe they want a better handle on asymptomatic cases...

Our testing still hasn't ramped up. From the backlogs reported I don't think it's reflective of an infection peak but I don't really know.

and yet we're talking like we can open back up and keep a lid on this via surveillance.

not likely at this point. pure wishcasting.

Utah has an excess in testing capacity right now and probably have done as much or more CV19 testing of the population per capita as any state in the nation. They are now relaxing standards so that any ONE symptom will make the candidate eligible for testing so the state Health Dept can better track the disease's progress. We have some significant RSV presenting right now among the population and the governor wouldn't take my suggestion that we put the National Guard at the borders to forcibly expel Californians and Coloradoans traveling in passenger cars.

Do you have to say the same thing over and over on every thread? We get it. We need to lock ourselves in our laundry room for three years until every last viral RNA fragment is eliminated from the Earth.

He also said that each site now has 500 tests/day available. Not sure how that compares to other major urban areas.

i'm not saying that

i'm saying that if we want to do the whole hammer and dance thing via testing, well where's the testing capacity

we're in full pretend mode for what's going to happen when they left the lockdown in three weeks

I think most of the country can get there in 3 weeks testing wise but again, that's just a guess.

Is there a shortage of test kits in Texas? Been made aware of a company that is seeking to expand into Texas with test kits that can be read on RT-PCR machines (I am not in medicine for reference, excuse any use of acronym).

Company is US-based and is working currently with two states, pursuing a 3rd and with a national laboratory. Evidently there remains a supply chain / procurement disconnect as state & local procurement departments relying on standard channels and coming up with vendors that are not acceptable, cannot supply, do not meet other procurement requirements, etc.

Asking if there is indeed frustration in procurement. If so, there may be a way to help. Going to look into this myself but you never know what TexAgs knows.

Yeah the testing has been extremely disappointing to say the least.
