I've seen some of these recent reports from China and South Korea about re-infection or "relapse"....I have a lot of questions regarding what they mean by relapse, etc.

At first it seems to mean they are retesting as positive...which could have a lot of issues in terms of were they really negative for a period of time, what are the CT values of the positives, etc.

But this report is suggesting some percentage are showing symptoms again, which would be a terrible outcome.

Again little info on what type of symptoms, the severity they are experiencing. A lot more info is needed. '

But now I'm thinking this needs to be on everyone's radar. I am going to be very interested to see the results on trying to culture the virus out of these patients samples

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's health authorities vowed Friday to better monitor people who retested positive for the novel coronavirus, as relapse cases of the disease are rising steadily in the country.

The number of people who tested positive again for COVID-19 after making full recoveries has reached 163 since the first such case was identified on April 8, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

The latest figure accounts for 2.1 percent of those cured of COVID-19 and released from quarantine, the KCDC said. So far, South Korea has released 7,829 patients after they were declared cured.

The KCDC said it took 13.5 days on average for people to be retested positive for COVID-19 after being released from quarantine.

Of the 137 cases that have clinical and epidemiological information, 61 showed symptoms again, the KCDC said.

Health authorities said they are conducting virus culture tests on 22 samples that it collected from people who retested positive.

I wonder if their tests were not of sufficient quality.

What are the outcomes? Are they severely ill or are the symptoms less than initially experienced. Context matters.

Yes. One, reinfection is bothersome. One, relapse is potentially terrifying.

If this is something you can get repeatedly in a short time then we are in deep ***** Would that have an impact on the potential effectiveness of a vaccine?

Spoke to a friend of mine who is a teacher at one of the US Bases. She said their are some elections that are about to take place and the politicians in general are being quiet about it.

I would guess that the effect on anyone catching it a second time would be less than the first time.
