HS friend got ticket in North TX for being in Walmart with wife in violation of that city's one person per household ordinance.

He lives in the next town over.

TX statute allows up to 1k fine and 180 days on jail

What city? I take my kids to HEB and Costco to give the wife a break . Montgomery County here... they lifted the shelter in place orders, etc.

But did they have masks on? Going to the grocery store could get really expensive.

Not bright. Just say "I don't know that lady that's following be around" when confronted by cop.

Love this rule. People loading up the family minivans to Walmart like it's a vacation are ridiculous

Weird to take your spouse to the store in these times unless there's extenuating circumstances.

And since they got the ticket I guess there wasnt.

There are any number of reasons why 2 is not unreasonable and doesnt equate to are loading up like a prepper. Can get through the store faster. If you want to use self-checkout vs having a clerk handle every item you buy, it can be helpful to crank thru that faster. But go loving these statist rules.

My wife and I shop together all the time and haven't stopped during the end of the world.

In fact, we just got back from a trip to HEB in College Station. Glad I live in a reasonable town and not in 1940's Germany where we have to justify "extenuating circumstances."

Not to mention, people ARE having to load up more to get thru a week because they are home 24/7. A ton of consumption went on in offices/businesses that is now happening at home now, and therefore having to be procured thru retail. Not to mention our heavy eat-away-from-home-on-the-go culture has shifted drastically back to the home. What looks like a lot is really only getting families of 4-6 thru 7 to 10 days.

So a single parent has to decide between getting supplies at Walmart and possibly getting a ticket, or leaving their children home alone?

This nanny state business has gone too damn far. This Covid stuff is NIMBY Christmas, Easter, a Hanukkah all rolled into one.

I think there is a good argument that that rule is not in compliance with the governor's order so it is invalid. The governor's order suspended the law that allows local mayors and county judge's to control movement within their jurisdictions.

People of integrity expect to be believed, when they're not, they let time prove them right.

I'm sorry you're not allowed to leave your spouse at home alone.

Nothing to do with COVID. Everything to do with County Judges and their need for power.

Ah, the ticket is the charging instrument. It does not imply guilt. The police on the street are not the arbiters of extenuating circumstances or guilt/innocence.

The corona bros are in favor of a police state? I did Nazi that coming.

Sounds like something worth taking to the supreme court. Something about their first amendment being violated....

Edit: That said they should challenge it and be willing to fight it, they will eventually win or it will be dropped. Just make sure the prosecutors knows you are willing to take it as high as it needs to go.

Because police officers are known far and wide for their understanding of extenuating circumstances.

I really wish people would stop comparing our current circumstances to 1940's Germany. It's ****ing dense and frankly insulting.

As long as you can avoid a jury full of Karens that love nonsense rules like this and hate minivans full of groceries to support a family home 24/7

Yeah...I generally agree with the social measures that have been suggested to curb the spread of the virus. But ticketing someone because they went to a store with their spouse? That's completely absurd.
