I am a dentist and have had to close my office since March 18th due to the corona virus. Today the dental board comes out and says that we are still not allowed to treat our patients unless life threatening until the current executive order ends May 8th.

Are all of the other healthcare professionals also not allowed to see patients for all of this time? They say it is to decrease spread and preserve PPE.

So are all physicians in office not allowed to see patients for exams or in office procedures? And are vets not allowed to do surgery because of use of PPE?

Just curious because I am frustrated and feel like I am not able to take care of my patients for essentially 2 months.

Vets are only supposed to see "sick" things in California, but I know for a fact that many are doing routine things (including routine/elective surgeries) as they arise. Doors are allowed to be open, so no one is being turned away.

Did you apply for the disaster loan? We did and have already received money. Heard from a banker today that there is no more loan $ left for those applying late.

My wife and I are dentists as well and I can only speak to what I see. I can tell you that I see general physicians offices, chiropractors, DVMs, and pediatricians open in the area I live. The dental profession has had terrible support during all of this chaos.

My apartment is next door to a dematology clinic and one for infusions. I walk my dog in that area every day. The derm clinic from cars there seems to be open now only a couple of days a week. The infusion clinic parking lot stays full. If that is what I think it is, I am sure it is essential.

I did apply for PPP through Bank of America on April 3rd and uploaded documents on April 6 which was the day they sent me the link and I don't even know if they submitted it. Last week I put in an application with another bank in the event that more funding came. Also applied for SBA loan and received $7000 grant/advance but no word on approval yet.

I feel like we have been thrown under the bus by ADA and the dental board during this time. Other professionals have fought to stay up and running while I feel like ours have continued to try to keep us closed.

Our outpatient clinic is open for sick visits and other routine stuff that can't wait like prenatal care and newborns. We're doing most of our work over the phone. No elective procedures in the clinic, but that's state law I think.

My dentist told us they are opening back up Wednesday, and they confirmed appts for my kids routine cleanings. We're in Texas, so I don't know whose orders they are following

Edit, I just got a call back to cancel those dental appts within a few minutes of my post

My wife is a pediatric hygienist in DFW and she was told May 8. Do you mind if I ask where in Texas you are? Her office has a meeting tonight.

NVM. Just saw your update

We're just outside Fort Worth. But they called and cancelled at 1600 citing the 5/8 date

I have had appointments with an oral surgeon and ENT canceled on me with no idea of when I'll be able to reschedule and get in. There's a lot of us that are having to just suffer through some things because we can't get in to be seen.

Thanks.

My wife isn't expecting to go back until June based on some things she is reading and the protection that will now be required and the time needed to obtain it.

I'm a veterinarian. Most veterinary clinics are open for curb-side services and only seeing urgent/emergency cases. No owners allowed in the clinic except maybe one present during a euthanasia. Veterinary medicine is considered an essential service but veterinarians are encouraged to limit what we are doing in order to conserve PPE and anesthetic drugs.

Out patient pediatrics: only well checks if vaccine needed. Can see other ill visits. Our system is routing all cough & fever patients to one central clinic that can test and has supplies. So I am mostly seeing skin infections, injuries, parents worried about kids under 2 years of age who may have ear infections (but no fever).

My volume is down about 60%. We are also working every other week at least through April and maybe through May so we don't get an exposure and the entire clinic has to be shut down.

I'm in Texas.

Edit; I'm employed thru CHI-St Joseph. Our staff can use PTO if they want to and have it. I am productivity paid so my time out of clinic is unpaid leave. I am still expected to log in and check labs and phone messages daily. Hoooooray free labor.

Vet here. We are seeing everything except elective surgeries. All services curbside. Work for one of the large corporates at a hospital in Houston area. Staying busier the last week or so. Mid march through early april was very slow and down 30% compared to the same time last year.

My wife is a Vet in CA and it's mostly what the others have said. They have cut back in their practice from having two doctors per day to one. With one, they are staying pretty busy. As mentioned, curbside drop off to a tech, then the vet calls and talks to the client.

My routine dentist appt in Colleyville Tx. in March was cancelled and rescheduled for June. My dog's annual physical was last Monday, and we parked curbside and they got our dog from the car wearing PPE and masks and then the actual appt was with zoom on an IPAD. I could see my dog and vet and chat in real time. It worked great. Dentist and Vet both Aggies.

I am a dentist in San Marcos Texas, I feel the same way you do. It's also ridiculous the State Board took until today to release their statement after Abbotts presser on Friday. We received our PPP loan last week but I still want to see my patients and care for my patients. I am tired of this!
