Louisiana death stats:
Deaths by race:
56% black
34% white
Death with underlying conditions:
hyper tension - 56% of deaths
diabetes - 35%
kidney disease - 20%
cardiac disease - 19%
obesity - 19%
A 5 second google search shows that it is not (Louisiana is 62% white). Those are demographics for those who had died of COVID in Louisiana.AggieFanatic09 said:that may also be the underlying demographics for the entire population of Louisiana as a whole.WestAustinAg said:

Do they have the inverse stats available? Basically what percent of people with each of those conditions died from the virus?WestAustinAg said:

But New Orleans is 60+% black - which was the hardest hit area.HotardAg07 said:A 5 second google search shows that it is not (Louisiana is 62% white). I'm concerned for the black community, not only in New Orleans and Louisiana, but everywhere. Both the community's housing and work situations suggest it'll be more susceptible to infection.HotardAg07 said:
So basically every parish black people are infected at 2x or more the per person rate of white people, with the exception of two.

if mardi gras parades were the culprit for initial spread and overwhelm, what is the racial breakdown of attendees?

But the tourists are overwhelmingly white. And they're the ones who are more typically packed in like sardines along Canal Street during parades and while partying in the French Quarter. Some locals will be found among the crowds, but many enjoy the Mardi Gras season in quieter areas.
Zulu is the African American crew, and the crew's membership has been hit hard by the virus. Although, I've not seen anything that has tied that specifically to Zulu's parade or associated events. It might just be a coincidence.
If the virus was introduced into a Zulu event, that would certainly put the black community at higher risk.
I'm not up with NO/Mardi Gras culture, but I presumed that there were an extremely high frequency of private parties at precisely the wrong time as well.SirLurksALot said:TXAggie2011 said:Attendance from locals more or less will follow the local demographics.aggiegolfer03 said:

It's not just about attending the parades. The majority of the hospitality and service industry workers in New Orleans are black. They would've had numerous contacts with tourists during Mardi Gras season without ever going to the parades.
