So my 7yo son has developed a rash all over his arms and legs over the last several days and I just assumed it was allergies. However, I've read recent articles about rashes being associated with this virus. Now, my wife has read these articles and is freaking out over it. My son has asthma so we've been concerned ever since this whole fiasco started. His rash doesn't bother him or itch at all. He's had an extreme case of hives when he was an infant and we don't know what caused it. Any of the doctors on here noticed any rashes when treating COVID-19 patients?

Not a doctor, but I have kids. It is not uncommon to see a "rash" during or following a common viral infection. Our pediatrician describes it as an immune system reaction to the initial infection. Commonly called a "viral rash" and in our case it looked like polka dots.

Speak from experience.

Yes we've dealt with rashes before when he's had a viral infection. He's also had allergy testing done and is highly allergic to dust and mold. The main parts of his body that are covered in rash are areas that are exposed - forearms, legs from the knee down, cheeks, etc.

Google COVID toes. Your kid likely has a blanching red papular rash on trunk. I saw one today. Normal viral exanthem. Harmless. Happens every spring and summer in kids.

edit: spelling, was posting on tablet without glasses haha

Yes this is beginning to be documented more and more. Not just in kids either!

Rashes are the worst, not a Dr but spent lots of time with Drs a couple years back with an inexplicaple rash. To make matters worse we had bad reactions to two very common Rxs given for rash- prednisone and a z-pack. When it was over had no firm answer what caused it and had just kept going about our business. Stay safe and best of luck

I can think of 0 situations I would give a z pack for any rash. Steroid yes.
