Can't watch the video at work, but signs of some food shortages? And sorry if this was discussed already, but why are process plants almost like nursing homes with Covid 19? Outbreaks every where at these places it seems.

I asked the same question in another thread about why so many meatpacking places had such big outbreaks. The consensus seems to be that despite wearing PPE during work, large numbers of workers congregate in communal break areas and also tend to live in high density housing. It seems like a good number of these workers are immigrants and end up packed like sardines into small houses or apartments.

Two million chickens in my area were just euthanized because the farmers didn't think they would be able to be processed on schedule. It sad that so much food is being tilled under or disposed of due to lack of processing capabilities while so many people are needing cheap food.

Don't recall where the story was but read how frozen potatoes where being hit because of an over abundance. Industry is geared more to making 50lb+ bags of fries for schools, arenas and restaurants. With everyone staying home the smaller bags are getting wiped out.

Seems like you deliver 50lb bags to the foodbanks and everyone gets a dozen potatoes thrown in their bag. How is this that hard to figure out?

Two reasons:
1 what you are describing sounds a lot like socialism so it wouldn't fly with most of the country.
2. Most people won't go to a food bank until they need to go to a food bank.

Now change this to grocery store chains realigning their supply chains to provide this service and you have a win.

This dual and distinct supply chain problem isn't just potatoes, it is pretty much all produce and meat.

It was the primary driver of the toliet paper shortages. Industrial TP and residential TP are two different products made in 2 different supply chains.

When people went from taking half of their dumps at work to taking all of them at home, one supply chain was over run and the other was running a surplus

This types of stories are awesome for keeping the panic and doom going. Instead of dying from COVID, we will all starve to death. As with anything, it is important not to freak out and give it a week or two. Nothing is ever as bad as reported by the media...NOTHING.

... the "media" is just reporting the comments by the Tyson Foods CEO.

Bingo. CEO of corporation being hurt by shutdowns complains about shutdowns. Yes, it's a problem worth planning for moving forward.

We just switched to industrial TP at our house. You can get individually wrapped AngelSoft 2-ply intended for hotels.

Also, was not intending a permanent hand out of socialist spuds. Was merely remarking that instead of tossing or having a shortage, you could repurpose.

And you would be very surprised at how many people have absolutely no issue going to a food bank.
