By wearing a mask, the exhaled viruses will not be able to escape and will concentrate in the nasal passages, enter the olfactory nerves and travel into the brain.

There is no study. It's an opinion piece by a retired doctor. He read a number of existing studies that tengentially relate to the current Covid situation, and then wrote this article with his takeaway of how those studies suggest masks would work now for Covid.

The doctor has a history of breaking from conventional medical wisdom over the course of his career, and has dabbled in conspiracy theries at times, including government vaccine conspriacies. And government chemtrail conspriacies.

Among his earlier campaigns Blaylock opposed food additives like aspartame and MSG. He had a wagon-full of junk science claims in his book regarding 'excitotoxins'a term he helped coin that is found in several homeopathic and alternative health snake oil sales sites. [1] Blaylock also promotes chemtrail conspiracies alleging cancer-causing nanoparticles as being purposefully released into the atmosphere in a government-corporate scheme.[2] Skeptic's Dictionary and QuackWatch call him an anti-vaxxer [3] while selling his own line of "Brain Repair Formula" supplements. He has been called "quack of the day" by The Vaccine Conspiracy Theorist.[4]

To herbal medicine and alternative treatment groups, he sells alternative treatments for neurological disorders that he claims stem from aspartame, MSG and other food additives.

So he's a conspiraloon nut bag. Got it.

The cdc initially said not to wear masks because they didn't want the same sheeple who were hoarding toilet paper to hoard the masks and keep them away from hospitals where they were needed.

They changed their mind when they determined that it could help keep asymptomatic carriers from spreading it. They have never said that wearing a mask will keep you from catching it. Just that it can lower your risk of spreading it.

It seemed clear what they were doing during the initial "Don't wear/purchase masks proclamations." Yet, the problem with a Noble Lie is it is still a Lie. The messaging was explicitly conveyed as "Masks are not Helpful." Now, it is difficult to pivot to the opposite.

It's not really difficult to pivot to the opposite.

Most understand why they told people not to go out and order masks early on. The people who don't are either aren't able to do any critical thinking, or have shown an interest in trying to contest any insight from the medical community for obvious reasons.

So the CDC is a propaganda org making recommendations that are adverse to our health AND we should trust their highly scientific recommendation.

Note I am not advocating or defending Blaylock's silly anti-mask pseudo-science. I am suggesting by conflating science and politics the CDC damages their credibility. People find it easier to dismiss CDC recommendations if they so choose. And people like Blaylock find a more receptive audience.

The issue in question is in non outbreak counties where the disease is under control (not eradicated), how likely is any one citizen to be both asymptomatic and shedding the virus? Comanche County or Brazos County are very different from Harris County or NYC where population density makes this more likely.

The thoughtful answer to the mask/no mask question is to allow state and local leadership to provide guidance based on disease incidence in each county. Blanket mandates that everyone should wear a mask isn't logical, regardless of whether it makes people "feel" safe. Thousands of people are required to wear masks at all times in public for months/years in more rural or less population dense locations just in case 0.05% (or whatever the actual number is) of the population is an asymptomatic shedder? It's the classic individual liberty vs public health debate. If you live in NYC, ride the subways, fly in planes, etc you should probably wear a mask. A family at the DQ in Goldthwaite TX, probably not necessary.

Moreover, the first paper suggesting asymptomatic shedding was a significant contributor to viral spread was corrected and the authors acknowledged that they never interviewed the index case to confirm he/she wasn't symptomatic. Follow up interviews confirmed the individual was symptomatic. They apologized for this oversight. I believe there was a thread on this board on this subject. FWIW, the WHO doesn't recommend masks for everyone, nor do some of the countries affected by this pandemic.

My employer requires us to wear masks, so I do what they ask because it's not illegal or unethical to comply wi to my employers wishes. They ask me to do many things that make no sense. Doesn't mean it's the correct decision or that I have to agree with it though.
