When you look at the total deaths in Texas they list 1,133 deaths by COVID but when you look a little deeper the completed fatality investigations is 485. The numbers do not match up on recent deaths and the timeline to get back testing as 648 have not died in that time period. Texas has the ability to test that many people so shouldn't nearly all be confirmed?

What I understand is there are two counts, and one lags the other. One count is what the state reports to the CDC. The second count is the number of death certificates the CDC has received to officially count the death. Someone with more information, please correct me if I am totally off base.

For example, my mother's college friend got sick and had a positive test, sent home. Three days later she died in her sleep of a massive stroke.

They gave the family the option of putting what they wanted to on the certificate. They chose stroke.

Cases keep going up. More deaths will follow. CASES

That article is true, but we've been floating around 1000 cases/day since the first of the month.

Look at the little pink bar graph

I wish we had an accurate track of daily tests administered. More testing will yield more positives in my opinion, and I think that's why we are seeing an increase in the number of reported cases.

This page has a link to an Excel file with number of tests per county.

Hospitalizations are well within capacity.

So what's the point. Deaths happen all the time. This is not going away

I pulled data off the CDC website, for TX we averaged ~3400 deaths in the 2017-2018 & 2018-2019 flu seasons, for both influenza and pneumonia.

We had ~3000 deaths in Feb, ~3000 deaths in March, ~3000 deaths in April. Very few covid deaths reported in March, I think around 700 in April.

As we average almost a year's worth of deaths per month, it seems TX are severely undercounting.

The delta death rate to year prior is a really interesting way to do this. Would never have thought of that.
