From a Kentucky paper, but there is a paywall.
Quote:

Kentucky has had 913 more pneumonia deaths than usual since Feb 1, suggesting COVID has killed many more than official death toll of 391.

Quote:

Surrounding states are also seeing death counts several times greater than normal: * Indiana: 1,832 COVID-19 deaths; 2,149 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 384) * Illinois: 4,856 COVID-19 deaths; 3,986 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 782) * Tennessee: 336 COVID-19 deaths; 1,704 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 611) * Ohio: 1,969 COVID-19 deaths; 2,327 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 820) * Virginia: 1,208 COVID-19 deaths; 1,394 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 451) * West Virginia: 72 COVID-19 deaths; 438 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 117)

The name-calling technique making false associations is a child's game. The propagandist who uses this technique hopes that the audience will reject a person and their argument on this false basis.

Probably trying to get more money from the government. Pretty much making stuff up at this point.

Could this be a result of people not going to hospitals for medical attention due to being scared of contracting COVID?

This is what I'm thinking too.

A long list of deaths or medical problems could be attributed to the inaccessibility of hospitals and health care... missed cancer screenings, undiagnosed cardiovascular disease, mental health evaluations, etc, etc.

These undiscovered stats are interesting. The Economist pointed out research that showed a huge spike in flu like illnesses that indicate that the actual number of cases are under-counted.

I would say it merely suggests that is a possibility. Indicates is far more of a definitive term.

Correlation =/= Causation

That's basic science.

Well ofcourse since this is bad news we all know that guessing is as could as fact but any good news must be held to the strictest of scientific standards.

1a: to point out or point to

b: to be a sign, symptom, or index of

the high fever indicates a serious condition

c: to demonstrate or suggest the necessity or advisability of

indicated the need for a new school

But I do agree that the findings are both dated and far from clear. More importantly, the data has certainly tapered off since those initial findings.

CDC says FL recording 5100 pneumonia deaths so far this year separate from COVID deaths.

Average pneumonia deaths per year prior was around 900.

Same thing has happened in Texas, deaths well above normal average for Pneumonia per CDC data. But May data looks to be improving, hopefully deaths continue to go down despite opening back up.

I guess one of the questions I have is how many people go into the hospital or even to the doctor who have pnuemonia that isn't COIVD related and get it cleared up. Clearly a lot of people were afraid to go into the doctor, much less the hospital.

We probably will never know.
