I'm directing this at the medical professionals here on the board to get their best take/opinion on just where we stand right now.

Should we be optimistic that the worst is over, or are we just in a sucker hole before the next round of infections? Since all heck has broken loose in the past week, we have had almost complete radio silence as to where we now stand in regards to the progression of this pandemic (or even worse, we have gotten conflicting statements from many so-called experts that seem based more on political correctness/feelz than actual science).

Of course, with so much about this disease still unknown, I know no one can speak with any degree of certainty, but what would be the best medical take/estimation as to just where we stand at the moment?

Outside of New York, nothing much has changed except people not caring.

We have a better understanding of the risk profile with regards to demographics.

If I am going to guess we are going to stay under hospital capacity until flu season. Then it is anyone's guess.

What do you expect the difference to be in terms of expected annual deaths and observed? In other words, how many deaths attributed to COVID19 would have been projected to die this year of other causes?
