My niece told me a few minutes ago that the assisted living facility where my oldest brother's wife lives has lost quite a few residents. It's not because of getting covid-19, but because of people leaving due to the limits resulting from the lockdown.

From what I understand, the residents haven't been permitted to leave their rooms since early March except for limited group activities. They used to sit and eat together in the great room where they could also watch tv, talk, put puzzles together, read, ..., but that is not allowed now.

Because of my oldest brother's funeral on Monday, his wife is now in a 14 day quarantine within the facility.

The sooner we can get past this outbreak, the better. I'm afraid, though, that with the great resistance for many people to take personal responsibility for anything, such restrictions are going to be around a while.

we are moving my mother-in-law out of assisted living because of this. She has really gone down hill over the past few months because she is basically locked up in her room with no social interaction. Very sad.

My oldest brother's wife can't move back out to the farm by herself.

I'm thinking that maybe we should get her an apartment behind my office. She would need to be careful, but she would be able to go out and talk to people. It's across the street from the park. Also, she would have family around and could even come to the office whenever she wanted and hang out. And she could have a pet.

All of this is just heart breaking. My mother used to come see her grand babies every night. Now we drive to her senior apartment once a week so she can say hi.
