Dr. Richard Bartlett works at various clinics around West Texas, and says he's found a successful treatment for the coronavirus.

Sweet. So it's time to go back to work. Tired of my teams pretending they're just as productive at home.

Set measurable goals and prove they aren't.

No kidding...my office every month has said we are going back next month...then the look at the numbers and say "work from has been extended another month" I think we currently scheduled to go back in at the end of August.

I will be shocked if that happens

I wonder if that treatment just provides temporary relief of symptoms until the body can clear it on its own, which seems to be the case for most everyone anyway.

No joke. Working from home in many, many cases is more productive and provides for a better work/life balance than working in a office. All it takes is a good manager who can provide direction, definable goals, and timely correction.

Half my staff literally works from home in India. And trust me they get their **** done.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm in a sales/production type role and am held to specific metrics, and have been working from home since March, alone at home with my 4 year old and 2 year old all day and have been producing at triple my monthly goals. Everything we do just requires a laptop and a phone, I honestly don't even know why we can work at home as much as we want going forward. I think I'll be bored at home without human interaction, but maybe half and half would be nice.

Same here. I manage a good sized organization and we are more productive since the WFH shift. I have personally been able to free up a significant amount of time I used to dedicate to domestic / international travel for F2F meetings and what I like to call the dignitary part of the job. There are definitely some people who are less productive because they have to manage young children at home, but now is a time to be patient, creative, and forgiving. Nobody asked for this experience and nobody needs a hard ass boss right now. I am worried some about cultural and relationship erosion, but I personally wouldn't do anything to jeopardize the health of my work force or their families. I have always been pro work/life flexibility but I also used to be very opposed to working remotely the majority of the time. I think I'm okay with the inverse now - go to the office once or twice a week.

For a lot of jobs, this is going to accelerate what was going to inevitably happen in the next decade anyway.

Back on topic, man I hope this is true, but a single doctor's anecdotal evidence with a small sample of patients is looser evidence than HCQ was back when it was supposedly the cure. It's frustrating how the news loves to run deep with stories that are highly speculative. You see it on both sides, from rampant doom-and-gloom projections to every hint of a possible cure/vaccine.

The people that want their employees back in the office just want to keep their foot on their people's throats. Otherwise their position gets exposed as expendable

That's pretty condescending. I have measurable goals and we're not meeting them. In fact, we have always tracked time in 6 minute increments, so we have comparative data. It has been clear in my industry for years that the most efficient place to work is on the client site. Sometimes we work in our own office because there is no room at the client site, but it's less efficient. Working from home has always been less efficient still. We sure as hell aren't getting more done now. Our hours spent on tasks has gone up by about 20%. Sure, we can still get things completed on time, but now people are complaining that they have to work late and "no distinction between home and work." It's all an illusion because these are the same projects we did last year, except last year we got things done faster.

You guys sure seem to know a lot about something that you're not involved in. I hope you all get to convince your bosses that you should keep working from home. But you're right - anyone who reads facts and relies on actual numbers is just trying to keep a foot on someone's throat.

I'm sure that's normal in some industries, but holy crap I can't imagine having to get that granular with my work day.

Sounds like a industry run by accountants, of which I have been one as well.

OldArmyBrent why don't you share what your industry is so we can better appreciate your challenges. Certainly one size doesn't fit all and that is probably true even among your employees with some just as productive or more than in the office and some less.

Curious to hear more. What industry?

Btw no condescension intended. Just saw someone voice a problem and offered a potential solution.

Flasbacks to DOD for me..from my experience it is less about the tasks needing that much granularity and more about the time entry systems allowing a single decimal (1/10 hour = 6 minutes).

I hear from folks at home that they are productive, but they also tell me that they are day trading and playing golf.

I know day trading is at an all time high and golf courses are packed M-F, so it seems hard to believe that folks are as productive. Maybe companies have too many meetings.

This. I'm a goal/deadline oriented person.

If my boss tells me "I need this by x date" I get it done.

But when my boss tells me "this is more important than that" I give This more priority. If this gets delayed then That also gets delayed.

Meetings and maybe people don't need to be in an office 8hrs to get work done. The amount of interruptions and bs that happens in an office just helps work fill the time expected to be there rather than people just getting things done

Or maybe sometimes there isn't enough work to fill a 40 hour week and we should re-evaluate the standard accepted work week? 32 hours with every Friday off but come to work on Friday if needed? Or work extra when needed?

My job is very busy and stressful two weeks out of the month...the other two are slower. I hate this standardized work week bull***** And I love working from home and have been able to do it efficiently without missing a deadline.

The amount of time that people sit around and BS or play on the internet is insane...people bragging about coming in early and leaving late but doing nothing in between. Don't impress me much.
