If you get tested please use your brain while results are pending

Person tested Friday for symptoms. Goes to wedding shower 2 days later. Kisses and hugs old people. Babies. Of course the test comes back positive 2 days later.

Use your brains people. Don't be an idiot. If tested stay home and away from people until results are in.

So frustrating. I have done this long enough to not be surprised at anything people do but good grief.

Rant over.

Was he tested because of symptoms? I'm assuming you are implying he had symptoms? If so then yeah he's an idiot

I would agree if it wasn't so freaking hard to get test results still.

I got tested last Thursday and I finally got the results yesterday and they told me they were "inconclusive". So I had to go back yesterday and get tested again and won't find out till at least Monday.

Haven't had symptoms for 5-6 days yet I'm still waiting 10 days later to see if I even had it or not.

Agreed. I got tested last Friday and I'm still waiting for the results 7 days later. What's the point of getting tested if it takes a week to get the results and the virus will have already passed?

what is the point of getting tested if you aren't going to isolate until the results come back?

Wait, this person had symptoms?!?! That's the issue. I don't fault a person who shows no signs of having the virus. It's not their responsibility to protect others IF they have no idea. But if you feel sick you stay home. Flu, common cold, streptococcus, whatever. Dumbass. I'm for staying all open. But IF you know you have symptoms enough to go in and get tested, then go to a large family event? Takes a pretty dumb person to do that. Wow. They must have felt good enough to go out obviously.

Everyone he was around needs to know that he deliberately chose to risk exposing others.

That is actually quite easy to answer. Asymptomatic people may want to test before going to visit relatives who are known negative to avoid being an asymptomatic carrier and infecting them. The fallacy is that so many people believe they have not already been around Covid + people, when indeed they have. The hysteria sets in when someone actually tests +. I'm a physician, and I am certain I have been around positive patients while being in full PPE, but I have probably been around positive patients no one knew was positive only in my standard mask. The point is the act of availing yourself of a test because you want to know does not mean you need to isolate. If I get tested out of curiosity, I am not going to isolate until the results come back, nor should anyone.

I know of 3 people that had symptoms like fever cough and by the time test results came back they after 4-5 days, they already started feeling better. The testing is a joke. In the Dallas area there are 3 places to get the 15 minute test but last I heard they are out.

To add to this, if you have symptoms, STAY HOME regardless of the results of the test. PCR COVID tests have a very high false negative rate. A single nasal swab does not rule you out for COVID if the test comes back negative. If you have the typical symptoms, assume you have it and stay home unless you need to go to the hospital.

Even before Covid, I can't tell you how times my kids would have a play date with another kid, and I would be taking with the parent and they'd say something like, "Yeah, little Timmy was throwing up like crazy this morning, but we gave him some Tylenol and now he's fine." So many people think that if you aren't showing symptoms at that exact moment, you can't be sick.

Yep, had a coworker this week show symptoms, get tested on Thursday-day, and go out to the city ballpark with a group of families Thursday evening. Come on.

Edit: Left out the important part, got the positive result Friday.

Doc I haven't seen you answer this question yet. When would you advise for a person who has tested positive with covid to go back outside and be around others? Is the 10 day quarantine and 3 days with no symptoms a pretty good guideline, or do you recommend the 2 negative tests as well?

My son was exposed at his fast food job (4-5 people tested positive). While waiting on test results, we quarantined him to his room as his sister is immunocompromised. He ate in his room, tv in his room, made his brother use a different bathroom so they wouldn't share. In short - the perfect teenager life.

He was negative - but if he came back positive, he would have gone the full time until a negative test. Almost understand people who hate masks (not relevant, but I understand). I can't even begin to understand you being exposed and not isolating until you had results.

Can you imagine if many people from that wedding shower get ill? Not only will he be blamed but the couple will now have to remember their shower as an event which spread a pandemic, really hope no one does catch it from that individual and certainly hope there are no severe cases if they do.

I think there has been a very large number of people who have provided mental swabs since March, these have been analyzed and the true pandemic - afflicting up to 50% of the population - is stupidity. I always believed that couldn't be spread person to person but in the age of social media I am not so sure anymore. It's why I self isolate, mentally, most of the time.

Mental swabs, love the phrase. Not sure what the false negative rate is but may be higher than we expect.
