Do golf carts carry the virus more or something?
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

What is the reasoning? To keep more of the day visitors off the beach?

I assume far fewer people will go to the beach if they have to park and walk more than 50 yards to water. I've been to the beach, I've seen the crowd.

Who cares? It's outdoors. Someday someone will wake up and get some common sense. Wasnt there a study saying 97% of cases are traced back indoors?

Stop freaking discouraging outdoor activities. It's how we stay sane. Get in the sun.

If they put up barriers just break them down and call it a protest. Problem solved.

Port A beaches were packed back the first few days of May. No spike or issues documented. Why the worry now? I agree this makes no sense.

If they close PAdre Island National Seashore, I'm going to be upset.

Went to Port A this last weekend, Thursday-Sunday. Thursday and Friday weren't bad, Saturday was a whole other story. We had people setting up chairs and tents behind us, and people behind them. Have never had that problem before. Can only imagine how bad 4th of July will be (or would have been).

I understand the mentality of "what's the issue? It's outdoors." but it was definitely getting to the point of being concerning. I think this is the best they could do without outright closing the beaches entirely.

No cars but not closed?
So everyone will park on the streets and only distance as much as they can walk?

I understand they are trying to prevent out of towners from coming in for the weekend but I'm betting a lot of people aren't going to want to lose deposits on rentals.

The cars act as natural dividers between groups. Remove that factor and people will be more crowded. I was there last weekend; it was extremely crowded. I just don't think this will help.

Not saying it's the right or wrong move, but denying car access absolutely decreases the size of the crowds.

We're going down tomorrow morning and staying in our neighbors' townhouse. Our plan is to walk on the beach early/late in the day, but spend most of our time at the townhouse relaxing on the big deck where we can be outside with the ocean breeze but not in a big crowd. I'm just looking forward to getting out of Houston.

The point is to discourage people from making the trip.

I think requiring masks on the beach like they're doing at SPI this weekend is dumb too but they are doing everything they can short of closing the beaches all together to try to limit the spread of covid. They fear the mass party scenes.

Cars are allowed starting Tuesday the 7th

We're headed to cinnamon shore Friday and planned on avoiding beach til next week anyway - now I'm sure all the heehaws will just jam up the pools instead

I've heard "Port A" brought up more in the last month than I think I've heard in the past 5 years. It's getting to the point that I know more people that have gone to Port A this summer than haven't . I can't imagine how crowded it must be.

Yes. They are trying to stop people from coming out. I'm sure the local businesses are happy their big revenue weekend will be suppressed.

It's idiotic that they close beaches (state roads) to Vehicle traffic but it is within their authority. That's the best way to obtain safe separation from crowds. Now everyone will show up and be jammed in the first mile or so of beach.

We were at CS the first week in June. Pools were not crowded at all. They had capacity limits on them but no one was counting. Peak of the day we might have been close to 50 people at the big one with the bar, but it was really easy to spread out.

yeah it always has been - im not worried about it. were bringing everything we need foodwise so we dont have to battle the IGA daily. once the access opens tuesday ill just thrown my truck on the sand and drive way down til things spread out with all of our gear

the beach restrictions arent going to delegate the reservation weve had for months now

That doesn't appear to be the case. First, no beaches are "closed" but Nueces county public beaches do have curfews and vehicle restrictions. PINS isn't closed based on what i've looked at, but if they did close for the same dates Nueces county is restricting access it wouldn't impact my trip later in July - if I'm being selfish.

It took about 30-40min to get from Palmilla to the traffic light on 22 and 361 last Sunday... so yeah I'd say its crowded. Nueces county is getting a big surge in cases despite having lower population #s than the big cities. I doubt its attributable to outdoors activities as stated above but I don't know if the Judge Canales is trying to discourage out of town visitors, etc. Atleast she isn't closing them completely like Easter weekend. The big parks are closed as well but if you've seen those on any holiday weekend they are a sh!* show.

We're supposed to go to CS Thurs but now not sure. Went a few weeks ago and it was packed. A little over 50 ppl both pools at peak days but plenty room to spread out.

I think most ppl will just go to pool now and pack the pools. I also think more ppl not staying there will park there for beach access and probably pools too. Parking is already tough out there on a normal weekend, so I'm sure it will be bad.

We are heading to CS July 9-15. Really hoping the crowds are not crazy. Have been there the last 4 years and it never felt crowded.

If they don't allow cars or golf carts the beaches will be great south of town where you need a car to access it. The few neighborhoods with a boardwalk will be really happy this weekend. It has been stupid crowded the last month and a half.

Oh crap, they have since posted that PINS will in fact be CLOSED, not limited access like the Nueces County Beaches, for the same time frame. It's July 1st and they decide to close from July 2nd to July 7th. That really, really stinks for people who have made plans and probably financial commitments to visiting this weekend and it being too late to cancel if you have reservations for lodging. I am just guessing here, but I bet the National Parks unit did NOT want to close, and didn't feel the need too, but have had their hands forced by Nueces County. I don't think even in a literal sense (I don't think the county can force the National Park unit to close?), but with the knowledge that all other beaches won't allow cars then PINS would be overrun and trashed.

Really stinks, and I think the whole deal is pretty dumb as it won't help much, if anything at all.

They don't have the manpower to enforce these restrictions. I predict many people won't listen.
As far as vehicles, I assume they can barricade the access points. Are you referring to the curfews?

I was there in Port A for the absolute craziness of the mid late 80s and saw crowds that were off the charts. Did not go back since 90 until about 07. Completely different scene and much more family oriented when I returned with my family as opposed to a college student. Love the debauchery as a student, and loved the fact it was more family oriented well over a decade later upon return. We have gone back almost every year since 07 since for a long weekend. Went this year on the weekend of June 12 and it was the most crowded I've seen since '90 Spring Break. Difference was more families and these "new fangled things we did not have back then called EZ Ups". We had ours every year since 07 but not back in the old days.

Everyone now has one, and the crowd which I'd estimate at the peak of the Spring Break stuff of the day was about at 50%, but with the canopy thing makes it very crowded. We got to the beach about a quarter mile past the posts at 7:45AM and had to search for a place to set ours up with room for the truck right behind. By 9:00AM, vehicles, mainly golf carts were driving between established "set ups" and trying to set canopies up in front of, in the middle of, or directly behind other set ups. This was by the Palmillia group that has all the chairs set up at dawn. Nuts. By about 2:00PM movement started and people were leaving, only to have other groups take their place within seconds. Literally less than a minute after vacating. The adults and families with kids were doing pretty darn well about respecting distances, and if talking at under about 6 feet, standing where the wind was blowing between them and no one was downwind. The young'uns though, were all up in eachother's business just like Spring Break from yesteryear. Definitely a difference in approach. Between that atmosphere with the young'uns, the bars at 75%, and the dumbass riots the young'uns took part in, it is no wonder the spike is as high as it is. The vast majority of it being the 20-40 crowd.

Based on what I learned from the 80s, and with the crowd I saw a few weekends ago, if the Mayor of Port A is trying to limit tight groups and he just cut off vehicular traffic, they are going to stack up along beach roads as close as they can get and walk to the first point they can set up, thereby concentrating crowds. That is going to be a **** show. Lots of unruly crowds, gathered up at the end of beach access roads looking for a place to set up, then returning to town drunk, frustrated, and looking for a place to party. Except for the families, who hopefully said no thanks and made the best of what their rental offered. That ferry line will be bad earlier than normal on Sunday to boot, full of cherry attitudes.

are canopy tents and umbrellas also not allowed this weekend?
