I have had discussions with several people, including those in medical community, who are confused about how the official cases are counted. I have two clarifying questions.

I have a friend who tested positive three times. Will he be counted as one case or three cases?

Are people who test positive for antibody included as positive? If so, what date do they apply to the count.

It's exponential, so they would count more with each successive positive test.

Thanks for the reply bobcat. I know both of these questions should be obvious, but apparently not. lots of noise on this topic, and just trying to get to the facts. assume they de-dupe test on your SSN to get to a single case, but wasn't certain. I have no idea how they count antibody test.

This is the official statement from San Angleo today. I would hope/assume some uniformity on this at LEAST within Texas... may be to much to ask. I'm not sure....

"To clarify, each positive test reported is a new, unique case. This is true for every positive test result that has been received since March when we saw this pandemic really take flight. So, the large amount of new positives that we have seen since June are all new cases from different individuals.

"In Tom Green County, we are not testing individuals multiple times and counting each test as a new case.

We do not report antibody serology tests in our numbers."

In Denton County, each person is only counted as 1 case, regardless of how many times they test positive.
