I was playing around with data from the CDC website and created this when looking at cause of deaths grouped by age. This data is Feb 1 - July 4.

That doesnt surprise me. Pneumonia is pretty dangerous for all age groups. You don't want to **** around with it.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

I agree. But I've never heard anyone worried about their kid dying of the flu or pneumonia.

How does this mortality compare to the same period in past years? I wonder if the Pneumonia deaths could be Covid but mis-classified.

There is a marked increase in risk for high schoolers. Also high schoolers interact with a lot more people during the day as compared to elementary schoolers since they don't stay in one class with the same kids for most of the day. That means the risk of catching Covid would be higher for both students and the teachers and other staff.

A very different strategy will be needed for High school vs. elementary schools. I mostly just hear"we need to open the schools" but I never hear about high school being approached differently from elementary schools

My son has asthma and he has gotten a flu shot every year because of the risks to him if he catches the flu. He has been hospitalized for pneumonia once and treated for it numerous times with strict instructions from his doctor about what we should do if his presentation changes. I don't think that most of my friends know all of that because we take precautions based on expert advice. We are able to vaccinate him each year to lessen the risk. We are able to treat pneumonia and asthma with proven treatments.
We don't have that knowledge and risk mitigation yet for Covid.

Yes, although there has been a significant spike in "pneumonia" deaths compared to previous years, according to the CDC. Here's one glimpse from April. I haven't seen an updated one.

You would have to split out non-covid pneumonia from known covid pneumonia

High school and college aged kids are at a higher risk for sure, I have known a few families that had the 18-24 year old get it and have symptoms for a few days and for whatever reason one parent gets similar symptoms while the other is asymptomatic. In 3 out of 4 families any kids younger never showed any symptoms

Your assertion is there is a huge spike in pneumonia independent of covid in the last two weeks?

Just found out my about to head to college 18 year old got his results back from a test from last Tuesday....positive. He was in bed for a day or two. 101 was the temp high. Sore lower back...slight headache. That was it. Played lots of Fortnite for a week. Similar to other illnesses he's had growing up.

Interesting part, neither Mom or Dad (or twin sister or 7 yr old brother) have shown any symptoms, and that's now been about 2 weeks since first symptoms from the boy. I've been jogging, wife playing tennis. He's happy it's over with, and ready to start playing football in the Fall. Actually been working out all week, hard.

EDIT: He just told me the steak dinner I got him for his graduation the other night, he couldn't really taste or smell it. Yep, he had it allright. Now I'm wondering when these senses come back?

I should have added, we adults didn't take anything (Zinc, etc) during all this. Come to think of it, I don't think he did either. I probably would if I would have felt the slightest "not right" feeling.
