This is curious:

Quote:

District director Annette Rodriguez said the child had a co-infection and his death was identified as sudden infant death syndrome, also known as SIDS, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.

SIDS

https://www.kiiitv.com/mobile/article/news/local/corpus-christi-officials-report-the-covid-19-related-death-of-six-week-old-infant/503-2124a1d4-1af2-46c4-b44e-7cecb3661457

Quote:

The infant died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome more than one week after returning home from the hospital. Since the six-week-old infant was diagnosed with COVID-19, his death will count as a coronavirus-related death in Nueces County.

It's being counted as Covid related but officially sids. Also not mentioned in detail is the kid had some underlying conditions.

Tragic either way

Here's the report of underlying conditions

Isn't the definition of SIDS a death that has no identifiable cause?

It's the same old debate. Is it death because of covid or death with/concurrent with a covid infection. How does it get counted and what was the real reason and if the death would have occurred irrespective of the covid infection.

Also. No one ever said kids were immune. The numbers don't support that it's as dramatic in kids but when n=1 a tragic result can always happen.

Unexplained death but its covid how in the hell.?

Although the cause is unknown, it appears that SIDS might be associated with defects in the portion of an infant's brain that controls breathing and arousal from sleep.

SIDS is supposedly caused by neurological issues . . . .the baby's brain can't recognize rising CO2 levels associated with suffocation. They sleep in a manner that suffocates them and the normal alarm system that would wake them doesn't work.

I sweated this to a ridiculous degree with my first born son , , , , ,I would go in at 2 AM all the time to check on him. Ridiculous in hindsight but a new baby makes you do crazy things.

And if this kiddo died of SIDS, it wouldn't seem that COVID had anything to do with it.

Medical professionals obviously know more though.

Same here... I'm in kiddo #4. I still worry and wake up randomly and go check on our 8 month old. Not until they reach 1 year old do I relax.. they put the fear of it in ya during those new parent classes at the hospital and then when they make their rounds in the maternity area.

In a nutshell. This is what a lot of the COVIDs deaths are.

Something besides the COVIDs is taking people out but the COVIDs is taking credit.

It started by taking credit for flu and then kept moving to something else when it notice the germaphobes couldn't contain themselves.

Twitter and media ran with it.

Election year led to the clown show.

Not ridiculous at all. SIDS is terrifying.

Ditto on SIDSI, checked all the time with all three.

This is the kind of crap that makes it hard to deal with this thing, it serious but this is the kind of cry wolf crap that drives me nuts.

So COVID could have certainly been a contributing factor in this infants death. Additionally, a death certificate isn't necessarily limited to a single cause. If someone goes into the hospital because they fell and now have a brain bleed, but while in the hospital they aspirate food, get pneumonia, and die of sepsis, what is the real cause of death? Had they not had the brain bleed they may not have aspirated their food. But the sepsis is really what killed them, not the bleed or the aspirated food.

Of course I know nothing about what is actually written in this kid's medical record, and have no idea if this child was suffering from a cold, had a snotty nose, or anything like that due to COVID. But I have seen multiple kids that have a cold and congested upper airways stop breathing while they're sleeping. Were they predisposed to SIDS and the cold pushed them over the edge? Or was it the cold on its own?

Just my thoughts.

Define 'a lot'. Do you have data to back up this claim? Is the rest of the world in on the election year conspiracy?

This is crappy journalism, but to jump from reporting on a mislabeled death to claiming 'this is what a lot of covid deaths are' is... yeah...
