Posted this earlier today on the Politics board but got no response. Still curious if anyone has heard about folks doing this!

Long story short, the family and I are back in Texas visiting in-laws. We have learned that two of my wife's aunts are getting tested for COVID-19 every chance they get. Trip to the grocery store? Stop and get tested! Buy a lottery ticket? Stop and get tested!

It is important to note that both are in their 70s and I'm not sure of their overall health. For the record, neither have tested positive yet and I'm also not sure of how many times they've been tested. Has anyone has heard of people getting tested just because they can?

Yes, some people are getting tested without any symptoms or other indication. As with most things medical, Americans think more is always better. More testing, more expensive treatments, surgical intervention when physical therapy will have an equivalent outcome, etc.

However I suspect your family members that are doing it are likely doing it out of concern for their health, especially if they're in their 70's. They may also have some OCD tendencies.

Agreed. Their test seeking behavior might be a way to compensate for their lack of appropriate caution.

Thanks for the responses. I thought it was odd too. I should also add that we met up with them in person yesterday for a few moments and they were quite paranoid! Keeping distance, mask wear, etc.

I am giving blood out of curiosity to determine if I have COVID-19 antibodies or not.

I need to go do this as well. Win/Win situation. Get to do something positive and possibly get good information for yourself.
