What are company protocols for this if people in the office start testing positive?

Your company should have clear protocols/policy on how they are handling Covid. Ask your boss.

My company has 4 sites, (Fort Worth, Woodlands, Corpus, NOLA).

All but corpus are in large office buildings. These buildings have been sending out notices alerting the rest of the building that someone has tested positive. My building in Fort Worth has had 1. The woodlands has had 3. And NOLA has had 20+, seems like 2 -3 per week.

Luckily, nobody on any of our location's floors has had it. The vast majority of each office are working from home at least 3-4 days a week. I am the only person that has been here every day.

Myself and the management committee (another person from each of the locations) said that if someone within the company becomes infected, we are shutting down that location for at least 2 weeks. Most people can work from home already, and all our mail comes to my office in Fort Worth so getting bills/checks will still be covered. If it turns out to be my office, I will still come get that mail once or twice a week.

The main goal is not giving it a chance to spread more than it has in our offices. No cleaning crew then have people coming back a couple days later. Too big a risk

My thoughts, as simplified as possible:

If everyone is wearing a mask, and people are staying outside of the 6' bubble, there should be minimal risk to each other.

If individuals are sharing a common workspace, touching the same phones, keyboards, etc., then a positive should trigger quarantine for the close contacts that share the same workspace.

If two individuals work in a small office together, even if outside of their 6' bubble it may be wise to quarantine just because of the risk of that small office air just swirling about.

The incubation period is up to 14 days, so it is possible the someone could develop the illness on day 14, right before coming back to work. If they show up to work for a day or two, or feel sick on day 14, get tested, but come to work and get positive results on day 16, then your office could have to shut down again.

Most people will show symtpoms within 10 days, and I believe the average is about 6 days post exposure. The longest I've personally seen is 11 days.

I don't think an entire office needs to shut down if everyone is doing a good job of mitigation measures.
