So, our PD just hasn't been seeming to be doing anything other than pretending to take precautions and give lip service to preventative measures.

Now both Sergeants, the Lieutenant, and at least 1 officer on the opposite shift as mine are all out with Covid. I'd imagine more to come because those guys all have blown this thing off as a joke and still hang out all the time outside of work and with each other without masks.

The good news is that one of the Sergeants, with his medical degree, has informed his shift that if they haven't started feeling any symptoms yet... then they don't have it.

Our detectives better start working on making sure their uniforms still fit..... because they're on deck.

So, on a shift with 16 people (including Supervisors)..... 4 are currently out of commission. I'm sure they'll be fine, they're all younger.... but man, that's a whole lot of poor decision making.

Good news is that in about two weeks your department won't have to worry about covid anymore.

That shift maybe. But yeah, your attitude seems to be what our command staff seems to be taking.... "Screw it, lets get ERRRRYONE sick".

They're all Marines, so I'm sure it's a lot of "We'll just sort out the weak" as well.

Several of our warehouses are air conditioned and the guys have maintained social distancing okay but we have had it go through several shops. Seems most are getting it out of work and only getting 1 or 2 guys infected if anyone. I think the longest any had symptoms was 3 days.

What color crowns were they eating? Maybe there is a color that is kills the virus better. Kidding, hopefully since they were Marines they staying in decent shape.

Isn't there a standing executive order from the Governor requiring you to give them a warning and then citation for this?

The ironic thing is I don't think we had any spread through the department as a result of the protests, and we were covering those for a solid week or 2.

But get a few guys who like to play XBox together, and think this all a joke together off duty all the time, and boom..... they all start getting it.

We should just force nigh shift into a playing all of their Call of Duty - Modern Warfare matches in person in a big room instead of online.

That'll "cure" the night shift kids.

If I was still a young 22 year old patrol officer, I would gladly drink COVID-19.

Well 5/35 patients hospitalized in my hospital are < 40. All sick. It's the variability in attack rates that make this virus tricky.

it's a legit question, absolutely not trying to one up Marcus

he'd be the guy I'd ask about prevalence in the Birmingham area

but please tell me more about how you're committed to improving the public discourse

Just looked it up. In the state - 41% of new cases are age 25-49. The highest %. But - they obviously are being admitted less than older patients. There were 1300 new cases in the state yesterday. So - 533 in that age bracket.

Don't have breakdown by county or this region specifically. But clearly it has shifted to younger people here. Though obviously they do better overall. But, they are not immune.

I don't think anyone has said they are immune. But statistically, a healthy person under 40 has virtually nothing to worry about.

I know one of the statistics. Early on I mentioned on here a young, new nurse, 30 Died.

I'm curious if anyone has looked outside the age stats to look at people with children vs people without. Specifically young (elementary age) kids as we all know they are walking germ magnets. Are the younger people that are catching this and having major issues not exposed to kids (and their germs)?

Young kids do not seem to have much of an issue with this disease. Is it because they are constantly exposed to viruses? Are we going to have unintended consequences by keeping kids out of school for an extended period of time?

Nothing to worry in the binary sense that they either lived or died.

But what about long term effects? I think that's the area that is concerning. Just because you don't die doesn't mean you are ever back to 'normal'.

Based on anecdote it appears that running marathons is a major risk-factor for young people. Joking really, but It seems like every story you hear about a young (30-40) year old with no preexisting conditions they and very fit and "run marathons". Probably just cause we culturally use that as shorthand for someone who is disciplined and fit but I noticed it enough at the beginning of the lockdowns that my husband and I talked about whether running extreme distances might break down your body in a way that make sit more COVID-susceptible.

Kind of ironic to be calling marines stupid and misspelling crayons. Or did I miss the joke?

I meant always hanging around BSing with each other at work without masks. When you're rank, you don't really have to follow Chief's orders.

Missed the joke, I have a few Marine friends and coworkers and since all of them pronounce it crowns I just got used to spelling it that way when talking about Marines. The eating crayons thing came from them, apparently they make fun of each other calling them crayon eaters.

On a more serious note it seems like a large portion of jobs where adults interact will have to deal with some shutdowns. It has been taking a toll on our business.
